The lava ocean entry
I’m Just thinking... this may never happen again during my life time. If it does I might be to old to hike out 😂. Joined the gym yesterday, jumping back in the water, and still hiking my gear out to shoot other things to stay in shape. To funny... the other day a friend and I jumped a fence and hiked about 100 yards to a cactus in the field. Was a tough hike 😂😂😂

Running river in the desert on the west side. Totally different look then our normal wet side rivers.
Pueo in flight.
Auto focus tracking on birds in flight is hard at least for me. Especially when they flying low. Once you focus point is off the bird, it starts locking in on everything else instead. Challenges.

Of all my ventures out to the lava fields, I say this was the most fearful of them all. Been through dehydration and heat stroke, bench collapses, whiteouts, avoiding lava breakouts, lava lakes, crossing active lava, and many other situations. Wouldn’t trade any of these experiences being a lava photographer. Hope to see Pele again in my life time.

Not sure if I will ever experience this in my life time again but I am truly blessed that I had the opportunity to be there and document history briefly. I wish I had more time to do so but my job was more important to be there and help the community of Puna.
So much thermal (heat) distortion makes this video blurry.

Molten lava to “pohaku” (rock). Many many days in the lava fields and it still fascinates me how the land is built. Have a good evening world! Aloha!
