  • 'Our first #sunset in #Namibia was an epic one! A sundowner game drive through the #Kalahari Desert delivered this classic southern African scene. The Kalahari occupies almost a third of Namibia, but it's not really a desert in the strictest sense of the word – more a savanna. It receives more rainfall than a desert – up to 200mm per year – and supports more animals (such as giraffes) and plants than a true desert. But never mind all that – it all just makes for a stunning sunset!' – @atlasandboots #lpinstatakeover #lpPathfinders

  • This weekend's #lpinstatakeover comes from #LonelyPlanet Trailblazers Peter and Kia of @atlasandboots, who will be sharing some spectacular shots of their recent trip to #Namibia. – 'Namibia is home to the world’s largest free-roaming #cheetah population, but due to commercial farming and urban encroachment on wild habitats, cheetahs and leopards often venture onto the 7,000-odd commercial farms found in the country. We spotted this beautiful cheetah during a visit to one of the world’s best places to see cheetahs and leopards: Okonjima Nature Reserve – home of the world-famous @africat_foundation.” – @atlasandboots -- Stay tuned this weekend for more Namibia shots! 🐆

  • This week's #lonelyplanet regram comes from @ellezela who captured the Blue Mountains in #Australia. They begin 65km inland from Sydney, rising to an 1100m-high sandstone plateau riddled with valleys eroded into the stone. There are eight connected conservation areas in the region, offering truly fantastic scenery, excellent bushwalks (hikes), Aboriginal engravings and all the canyons and cliffs you could ask for. — Every week we regram a shot from our community. Tag yours with #LonelyPlanet for a potential feature!

  • #LonelyPlanet writer @bradley_mayhew is responsible for this stunning capture of Agra's Mughal Pavillion, looking particularly dramatic set against the orange-hued sunset. 👌

  • Couldn't you just slink into a steaming hot #onsen right about now? This Japanese practice dates back thousands of years, due to the country's abundance of natural hot springs. Although the number of both indoor and outdoor onsens has decreased overall, bathing in them is still a key part of Japanese life, and popular with travellers to boot. 💦 🎌

  • 'Welcome to #Petra by night. Five years ago I was introduced to Petra and its Treasury by following a trail of candles along a sky-high canyon before seeing the world-famous Treasury illuminated in a golden-red light. I can’t imagine a better way to see this wonder for the first time. Like so much in this country, to walk down the Siq and finally see the Treasury makes you feel like you’ve tripped along the way and landed yourself in a surreal, abstract world, one where the visuals you see and the stories you hear are beyond anything you’ve managed to conjure up in your imagination before.' – @jeremyullmann -- That's a wrap for this weekend's #lpinstatakeover! • '#Petra is the main tourist attraction in #Jordan, and though many will gaze for hours at the magnificent Treasury, surprisingly few take the relatively easy hike up to the Monastery of Petra. This ancient city is described as the ‘Red Rose City’, a name which only makes sense early or late in the day, when the sun is low in the sky and gives Petra a sweet, golden and pink hue.' – @jeremyullmann

  • 'I was in the cinema watching the movie ‘The Martian’ a few years ago. During the opening scenes I had a weird sensation that I had been there (to Mars) before (or where they shot it at least!) After a couple of minutes I was beyond doubt – some of those shots were unmistakably from #WadiRum, the beautiful and unique Bedouin desert in South #Jordan. I googled it in the cinema and there was the proof. Fancy that – I’ve been to Mars!’ – @jeremyullmann #lpinstatakeover

  • 'From one early morning to another, 300km south of #Amman, in the iconic region of #WadiRum. We stayed with local Bedouins far in the desert, and as we climbed high above our campsite to see the sunrise, we spotted a herd of mountain goats trotting calmly across a perilous cliff face. I wish I could remember what grabbed their attention in this photo, but we were too amazed by their incredible climbing skills to notice!' – @jeremyullmann #lpinstatakeover #Jordan
