(1959, Fiat 500 Nuova ... The short story – extracts: Also known as the “Cinquecento” (translates into “500”) in Italian, the second-generation, or Fiat 500 “Nuova” (translates into “New”) was originally produced as affordable, practical, small car for scooting around town (measuring just over 2.5 metres long and powered by a 479 cc two-cylinder, air-cooled engine) and among other thoughts behind the development of this fantastic little car, was also that it was meant to be a “proper” replacement of another Italian icon ... the Italian scooter: The Vespa – since people were looking more and more for combinations of comfort and practicality (and still at a low price) … which the Fiat 500 Nuova fulfilled 👌
Deriving from the original Fiat 500 “Topolino” (meaning “little mouse” in Italian ... which was produced between 1936 and 1955) the Fiat 500 Nuovo was unmistakably Italian. It was designed by Dante Giacosa (internal project code: “110”) and was launched in July 1957 as the Italian “people’s car” like e.g. Germany had their “people’s car”: the “Beetle” from Volkswagen.
But ... even though that the Fiat Nuova 500 derived from the highly successful Fiat 500 Topolino and although the Topolino was technically a " Fiat 500”, then it had a front engine and actually didn’t show so much resemblance to the Nuova as one might think. At the outset, the Nuova 500 shared several more similarities to the larger Fiat 600, including a rear-mounted engine driving the rear wheels, independent suspension at each corner and rear-hinged “suicide-style” doors.
Through the years, the 500 saw some different body styles and minor equipment changes, but the basic formula remained unaltered from the original, which definitely also did provide the essential inspiration for the current “modernised Fiat 500”.
Nearly 4 million examples of the vehicle were produced over the course of its 18-year production (1957-1975), and today, it still remains a true icon of European motoring.

Z cyklu: "inni mają gorzej". Moi znajomi czasem narzekają, że w kamienicy/bloku ciężko jest, bo nie ma windy i trzeba dzieciaka, albo co gorsza również wózek wnosić na trzecie piętro. I oczywiście mają rację, bo to plecy bolą, zwłaszcza u wymęczonych młodych matek. Mimo to chciałbym zadedykować im ten obrazek z Afganistanu. Windy wprawdzie nie trzeba, bo domostwo jest parterowe, ale za to trzeba dzieciaka najpierw wtaszczyć na letnie pastwisko, jakieś dwa dni jazdy konno z najbliższej wioski. Bieżącej wody brak, ale jakieś 10 min w dół jest rzeka. Kuchenki indukcyjne brak, ale jest paleniska opalane jaczymi bioekokupami. Tylko weź mnie synek tych nożyc nie dotykej, bo gorące!

My friends sometimes complain about not having a lift in their house. They have a good reason, it's not easy to carry a child to the third floor. Especially wheb you're young more and your back hurts. Still, I'd like to dedicate them this pic. This mother doesn't need a lift, cause her husband's house has only one floor, but she had to carry her kid here in the spring. It's two days horseshoe from the nearest village. There's no current water, but the river is only 10 minutes walk from the house. No induction cooker, but who needs it when you have good old stove, fuelled by yak's eko-shit? But don't touch the scissors, they're hot!
