Few of the kangaroo island tiger snakes found while living on the island the last few months. The colour variation in these guys blew me away! Everything from black, striped, gold and red.

Hoot Alert: Meet Lloyd, the southern boobook owl! 🦉 Lloyd was found on the ground, unable to fly, perch or stand, with a very notable head tilt, injuries likely from a road accident. A kind delivery man spotted Lloyd in need, and called in the experts to give him a helping hand.

This week’s reader photo was captured by Lauren Edwards. “I had recently moved to a suburb called Upwey in Victoria. I heard a rustling outside and saw this little short beaked echidna (Tachyglossus aculeatus) outside my window,” says Lauren. “He then climbed up onto some decaying logs and found a hole that he disappeared into, I happened to get ready with my camera and to my surprise and joy, he popped back out just like this and I managed to get the photo just in time.” To have your image feature on our IG feed, head to our website and upload your reader photo, or tag #ausgeo ! #wildlifephotography#australia#shortbeakedechidna#upwey#victoria#australianwildlife
This is Hiccup. When he first came visiting he had A THUMBTACK piercing all the way through his lower beak. This poor boy has probably lived most of his life like this considering how misshapen his beak is now.
Upon realising this sweet boys poor situation, I contacted a local wildlife man who leant me a trap. I trapped Hiccup and took him to the animal emergency centre where the thumbtack was removed. He was checked over by the wonderful vets there and given the all clear to be released back to his family.
This is a HUGE lesson on why we should be so careful not to litter. Something as seemingly small as a thumbtack falling out of your bag or paperwork can have a huge effect on our native wildlife. If that thumbtack had stayed in poor Hiccups beak much longer he could have had severe metal poisoning or lost his beak due to beakrot.
This little wombat is a rescue in Victoria, Australia. The mother was hit by a car and the joey rescued from the pouch. This little girl will spend several months with its rescuer , who feeds her special milk. Eventually she will detach from her human ‘mother’ and wander into the eucalyptus forest and paddocks, where she will hopefully live a long, wild life. #wombats#australianwildlife#rescue#nature#marsupials#countryvictoria#animals#protectwildlife#oneearth#Australia
Henry is 100% het for hypermelanistic. He is quiet and reserved, mysterious if you like. He prefers long walks in long grass and his women to be thick! Henry has relocated from SA and is looking for love 🤣😍😘🤭
