I spent this snow day reading up on daring leadership and I was wondering - regardless of your title or how many people (if any) you actually supervise, how do you show up as a leader every day? Have you ever stopped to notice whether how you show up impacts the wider culture in your organization?
As a leader, I know first hand that it's often easier to hide behind criticism, sarcasm, and cynicism, rather than digging deep and showing up as our authentic and vulnerable selves. It's often easier to perpetuate a culture of fear, anxiety, scarcity, numbing, and perfectionism by rewarding those behaviors, rather than creating opportunities to cultivate a culture of courage, compassion and connection.
In the spirit of being vulnerable I'll be the first to admit that leadership from a place of fear and anxiety defined my style as a leader when I first started out, though I'm grateful for the experiences I've had since then that have helped me to grow and show up as the type of leader I actually want to be - open, compassionate, curious, courageous.
