Thurgood Marshall was the first African-American member of the U.S. Supreme Court. He served on the court from 1967 until he retired in 1991. Earlier in his career, Marshall worked as a lawyer for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and helped win the 1954 landmark desegregation case, Brown v. For 22-year-old Hasan Safin, who cracked the Union Public Services Commission exams with an all-India rank of 570, it was his mother’s love and sweat that paved the path to success.
Safin, a native of Kanodar village in Palanpur district, Gujarat, belongs to a low-income family. His parents, Mustufa and Naseembanu, work in a small diamond unit, earning just enough to feed their child, although there were days when Safin went to sleep on an empty stomach.
This is telling to ask of ourselves as well as others. Do our beliefs matter because we believe they are true.. or because we are comfortable in them? Would you leave the faith you are in if you found another to be true ? An athiest once said to me that even if the Christian God were God they wouldn’t follow Him. We need to ask ourselves are we even interested in what’s true??
