Built in the 1870s, this church now stands in a ghost town along the Mississippi River. The victim of floods, isolation, and neglect, it is difficult to imagine a scenario where this church could be saved.⠀
The interior images show the damage caused by repeated floodwaters that have entered the church. The pews that are missing from the sanctuary are somewhat visible in image 6. You can see them tangled in the brush- where the most recent flood relocated them. The last image shows the town as it looked in the 1950s.
The floors are buckling, the roof leaks, windows are broken, and the walls are beginning to bend and warp from water damage.⠀
There isn’t much time left to turn the course of its fate around.⠀

“Sometimes it hits me. This place had a long history before us and has a long future after us. I keep thinking it’s a part of our lives, but really it’s the reverse. For a little while, I don’t know it... it’s like we’re apart of it’s life.” - Lorelai Gilmore | feels like so much life has already been lived in this sweet, well loved house for the short time we’ve called it home. Both difficult times and beautiful times, painful times that lead to tremendous growth. Growth in every form - spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and, recently, even physically as we prepare to bring home our new addition to the Hurt household this July. Plenty of changes have happened in our short time here, but we’re grateful for this chapter: for the messy and the marvelous and everything in-between. 📷 @abigailwhisler
Emory Ryals has always had an appreciation for art, but it wasn’t until her sophomore year at Ole Miss that she decided to pick up a #paintbrush and pursue her passion to #paint . She has since moved from #Oxford to #Marks , #Mississippi to teach special #education inclusion and #biology , but her art continues to shine in all that she does. Ryals began painting #abstract#pantings on various sizes of canvases and wooden blocks. Her art is displayed on her Instagram account @emory__art, which began her journey of producing and selling art for wider audiences.
