  • hi !! today i wanted to talk about rational + spiritual reasonings behind veganism🧚🏻‍♀️
-
we justify our domination of animals by reasoning that they aren’t like ‘us’. this is the same reasoning which for centuries has been used to justify the oppression of certain groups of people, driving us to oppress based on gender, race or other factors is the same thing which drives us to oppress animals. a superior persecuting an inferior. veganism is about inclusivity - recognizing that animals, as humans, have the right to be free of oppression, exploitation and senseless murder.
-
when beliefs and actions are not aligned, it can be distressing and excruciating. this is known as the Dissonance Theory by Leon Festinger, a cognitive psychologist. it refers to a situation involving conflicting attitudes, beliefs or behaviours. this creates a feeling of discomfort leading to an alteration in one of the attitudes, beliefs or behaviours to reduce the discomfort and restore balance, etc. some people will literally try to change their beliefs - for example, by claiming not to care about animal suffering - just to eliminate this distress without the inconvenience of changing their regime.
practicing veganism means rejecting this and truly aligning actions with beliefs, as any emotionally intelligent person should be able to do.
-
we are so lucky to live in a society where we can enjoy delicious and abundant food without harming or exploiting animals. if you can read this right now, on your cell phone, you can afford veganism. a lifestyle which causes minimal harm to animals ultimately benefits everyone and everything else on the planet, as everything is interconnected and dependent on this interconnectivity.

  • If today wasn’t already horrible enough. Documenting and rescuing goats who were being absolutely exploited for their milk at a slave farm.
.
This afternoon we lost one of our beautiful boys.
.
You were forced into this world into a body that grows 3 times the natural rate all so that some human could feast on your flesh at 7 weeks old.
.
But you were one of the ones to be rescued of the horror that was to come.
.
You felt the grass on your feet, you felt the sunshine on your back, you felt the breeze, you got to eat all kinds of delicious fruits and veggies, you made friends with calves, piglets and sheep, you were so loved.
.
The last 7 months with you have been bliss.
.
I just wish so badly people would make the connection and see you as a individual instead of a product.
.
Rest peacefully beautiful💙

  • What are your plans for helping animals in 2019? 🐷🐶💪🏼
•
My personal resolution is to share more *simple* recipes and approachable ideas for cruelty-free cuisine 🌱✌🏼. While I may personally love the idea of experimenting 👩🏼‍🍳 with renowned vegan chef Tal Ronnen’s Pine Nut & Basil Seared Gardein Chick’n with Lobster Mushroom Beurre Blanc 😳 OR his Israeli Couscous with Champagne Grapes, Haricots Verts and Marcona Almonds (what??), these meals aren’t exactly helpful to a busy single mom who’s just trying to feed her family without hurting animals. Many of you requested more approachable meal ideas, so I’ll absolutely be prioritizing that!
•
If you have more content requests for me, please keep them coming! And feel free to ask multiple times because...sometimes I forget 🙈
•
Looking forward to hearing your ideas!! •
(photo source unknown, please let me know if it’s yours!)

⁣
Cheese is perhaps the most cited reason for unwillingness to go vegan.⁣
⁣
But are you aware of what you are consuming?⁣
⁣
Cheese is formed by coagulation of the milk protein casein. The coagulation occurs by the addition of rennet (derived from the stomachs of baby calves), acid, heat, or cultures. Following this, the curd is separated from the whey and is ripened to produce the final cheese.⁣
⁣
Dairy milk contains 3.7% fat, 3.5% protein, and 4.8% carbohydrates. High levels of saturated fat and cholesterol, both of which can have adverse effects on the human body, are also present. There are a number of other biologically active components in cow’s milk, such as IGF-1. These are all specifically designed for pathways within a cow’s body and have evolved to direct the rapid growth of the offspring for which they were intended. Consumption of IGF-1 in dairy has been shown to increase serum levels of the hormone in humans and has been linked to increased risk of certain cancers.⁣
⁣
Dairy cows are prone to many infectious diseases, and most commonly, they suffer from mastitis (inflammation of the udder, caused by infections), which is one of the common reasons for sending cows to slaughter. The body’s response to infections is to produce white blood cells (somatic cells), which can make their way into the milk produced by the female cow. In the European Union, milk can contain up to 400 million white blood cells per litre.⁣
⁣
The cheese you so eagerly consume is created by modifying a substance produced exclusively to raise a baby of a different species. Yet we are selfishly taking away the babies, manipulating the mothers, and consuming that substance ourselves. By doing so, we’re causing harm to ourselves, too.⁣
⁣
Alternative cheeses are available far and wide, and as the demand for these is increasing, prices are becoming comparable to dairy cheese.⁣
⁣
So if we have no need to eat dairy, alternatives are available, and dairy causes adverse effects to both ourselves and other species, why are we still eating it?⁣

  • Why I'm STILL vegan.

There are so many ways following a vegan diet can help you and this planet. Vegans have the highest life expectancy and lowest rates of cancer and many other diseases compared to both meat eaters and vegetarians on average. Since I went vegan I've had more energy, better digestion, glowing skin and just felt better over all. Our diets also have a drastic effect on the environment and a vegan diet is one of a few that is actually sustainable. The U.N. believes that a global shift toward plant-based food is vital if we are to combat the worst effects of climate change, stating that raising animals for food is “one of the top two or three most significant contributors to the most serious environmental problems, at every scale from local to global.” However veganism is not a 'diet' and it is not just about YOU. Veganism is a social JUSTICE movement. It's about the billions and billions of sentient beings beings that are suffering and dying because of us and our choices. Veganism is about taking a stand against oppression, against the SPECIESISM that is so prevelant in our society. It's about saying 'NO! Animals are not here for our appetite or fashion or entertainment or research.' It’s about fighting against the industries that profit from the use and abuse of animals. It’s about fighting against the governments that protect the rights of those industries to use and abuse animals.
I'm still vegan because once you make the connection and realise animals are here with us and not for us there's no going back.
Being vegan isn't about what is convenient it's about what is RIGHT. Veganism is about ANIMAL LIBERATION.

She was alive and her suffering was intentionally prolonged.
She was a victim of the slaughter bound truck crash.

She was injured but trying her hardest to get away.

She was alone and her friends were being shot dead around her.

She was used as a live decoy to lure the rest of the cattle.

She tried to hide but she was surrounded.
She couldn't stand anymore and collapsed.
She lay broken, unable to move and fearing for her life.

She was left to suffer for a few hours until the gunman was ready to take away her life.

She watched him as he got closer. She looked up as the gunman fired at her.
She was shot in the head. She was still alive but left for dead.
She was shaking, her heart was beating and she was breathing.
She was suffering but a bullet was worth more than her life.
After I helplessly watched for an hour I decided to go over and see if she had passed. She hadn't. She was still alive. I requested that she was to be shot again to be put out of her misery. My request was refused because authorities weren't going to "waste" another bullet on her.

The industry wanted her to suffer in silence.
The animal rights advocates were made out to be "neusience" for exposing the truth.

She deserved more than what this cruel world did to her.
She deserves to be heard. She deserves to be seen. She deserves justice.

End animal oppression. Be vegan.

  • If you want to be living you've got to eat living. Since going #vegan about 5 years ago it has become vividly clear to me that eating food that is alive (like fruit, vegetables, nuts, water, legumes and plantbased food) allows your body to regenerate, fix itself, and you feel lively and light because what you're putting in is still living and full of water, sunlight, vitamins, minerals-the stuff you're supposed to have! It's healed my endometriosis when surgery and medication didn't and it quickly & effortlesly bought me down to a healthy natural weight. These are the physical things. But emotionally and spiritually it has made me a more #compassionate and #ethical person to all animals including bugs, and to humans. It really shifts your mentality to another level. 🌻
This icy green smoothie has in it, rocket leaves, #banana, @pranaon #proteinpowder & #peanutbutter, #almondmilk & ice cubes because it is a hot sunny day here! 🌴☀️

--------------------------------------------------------------
In the milk industry, cows are forcibly impregnated so they continuously get pregnant and produce milk. Then, the calves are stolen from their mothers, so humans can have the milk. Male calves are often killed for "veal". This causes immense suffering to the animals and cows create strong bonds with their babies.
This is cruel and it is not right! It's hard to accept, but it's the truth and it is horrible. Please consider this before you eat dairy. There are other options and YOU choose.

------------------------------------------------------------------
What stops you from seeeing a cow, a pig, a chicken, in the same way you see a dog? ALL of them feel PAIN. If you kick a dog, you know he is going to yelp. If you hurt a cow or a turkey, you know they will have the same reaction. If all of them feel pain, why pay for them to be hurt and killed?

  • At some point you gotta pull up your big girl and big boy panties and stop playing the "ignorance is bliss" card. Just because you don't see the violence with your own eyes, doesn't mean it isn't happening... with the support of your dollars at that. If you are willing to fund it, you should be strong enough and have enough gumption to witness it. That is all ✌ #whyimvegan #veganforeverylife

  • What does it take? Does one have to be allergic for their food choices to be respected? I'm not a "picky eater" for no reason. I avoid eating animals because:
_
1. Somebody doesn't have to die for me to eat
_
2. We have until 2048 to clean up our act before climate change gets too unbearable and irreversible
_
3. I care for my health and the #mentalhealth of the slaugherhouse worker that kills pigs for our bacon or ham #realtalk #vegan #whygovegan #whyimvegan

  • you can’t be an animal lover if you choose to murder and consume pig, cow, fish and chicken flesh. .
.
