  • ‘New Life, New Death’ - two Olive Baboons make a beeline to a forested island in the sea of grassland. The perfect place to secure a kill away from thieving competitors. One has a baby gazelle in its jaws and the other carries a baby on her back. They didn’t make it in time. A hyena in hot pursuit came out the victor on this day 📸 by @kirstenfrostphotos

  • This is @ellajackson.art with my last takeover post for @unbiodiversity. It's been a pleasure! 🐒⠀
⠀
Sunday Mood.⠀
⠀
This is Walton Ford's 'Windsor', depicting a mandrill baboon. Mandrills are the largest of all monkeys. They are shy and reclusive primates that live only in the rain forests of equatorial Africa. They greet each other by baring their exceptionally long canines (these can be up to 5cm long).⠀
⠀
Average life span in the wild is 20 years; the longest recorded lifespan for a captive mandrill is 46 years. Mandrills live in small social units but often join up with other small groups to form larger ones called hordes. One of the largest groups documented numbered over 1,2000 mandrills!⠀

  • Monkey giving birth.

This unique monkey is also known as the bleeding heart monkey or gelada baboon. This monkey is found in the Tarangire highlands, is actually not a baboon but related to one ,as many other primates. #Theropithecus
