This time of year is always difficult for me and I constantly have a little niggling voice in the back of my head telling me I’m not good enough. This, mixed with restricted social media engagement and a lot less work than I’m used to, makes me believe that voice. I’m so used to constantly creating that when I’m not, it makes me feel like maybe I’m not good enough. It’s so easy to compare yourself to others online and I’ve found myself doing that a lot lately, but then I tell myself to snap out of it and put my phone down and to just reflect on how much I’ve actually achieved in these short (almost!) 3 years.
I know many of you can relate to comparing yourself to others online and it’s totally normal. But it doesn’t mean your thoughts are true. ❤️ This time last year I was considering a mini break, and then a month later I did it. I closed my diary for a month and a bit, put effort in to looking after myself and then came back stronger. I am just so grateful I’m no longer in that place.
Anyway. Here’s my fave cake from 2018 to remind myself, I GOT THIS SH*T. 💫

Just came across this old video from 2016 where I tried out @bakedideas paintbrush method for royal icing and thought I’d reshare! I personally don’t use this method anymore though it’s such a great one for avoiding air bubbles (you can see I don’t once have to pop any), but I do actually use a spoon now which you may have seen in one of my posts. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Untuk 2 porsi
5 siung bawang merah
2 siung bawang putih
2 buah cabai merah keriting
5 buah bakso ayam/sapi iris tipis
2 butir telur kocok lepas
Merica bubuk secukupnya
Kaldu jamur bubuk
Seledri cincang halus
Bawang goreng untuk taburan
Minyak untuk menumis
1. Haluskan bawang merah, bawang putih, dan cabai merah.
2. Tumis bumbu halus dengan sedikit minyak hingga harum, masukkan telur.
3. Masukkan bakso, aduk sebentar kemudian masukkan kwetiau basah.
4. Beri bumbu merica, garam, kecap, dan kaldu bubuk. Tumis hingga matang. Taburkan seledri dan bawang goreng. Siap disajikan.

My first attempt at a mirror glaze cake, didn't come out as shiny as it should but all in all a good first attempt. Combined dark and lighter pink hues with some white to create a "marble" like effect (it did something even though it's not marble 😂) The inside consists of a triple layered vanilla sponge cake with one layer of vanilla buttercream and one layer of raspberry buttercream 🍰.
M'n eerste poging tot een mirror glaze cake; hij zou meer moeten glanzen maar voor een eerste poging ging het nog best oké 😂 Aan de binnenkant van de cake bevinden zich drie lagen vanille cake met één laag vanille botercrème en één laag frambozen botercrème 🍰.
As usual, my oven always messes things up so I had it out of the oven by the 12 minute mark @ 160°c fan oven (as a conversion for the 180°c in recipe)
As seen in the picture, my piping definitely has a HUGE room of improvement (+ my piping tip is kinda bent hehe and i wasn't using a proper piping bag)
But yea, overall it is a great recipe, will try it again but def need to familiarize with my oven more to prevent the uneven baking for trays at different racks of the oven, leaving some having edges very brown, while some with only a slight brown or none.
