Her success has brought increased attention to the 68 indigenous nations in Mexico, where up to 14 percent of the population is indigenous. “If Yalitza wins the Oscar, it will be a reminder to the entire world that indigenous people are alive and very much still existing in the world in the 21st century,” says Odilia Romero, the national coordinator for Frente Indígena de Organizaciones Binacionales, an association that oversees indigenous affairs in the United States and Mexico. long live indigenous people ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾 🙏🏾 @theglutster#yalitzaaparicio#oaxaca#vivaoaxaca#Repost@snapshotlopes with @get_repost

I had the great privilege of photographing the incredible actress @yalitzaapariciomtz for the @washingtonpost. She is the first indegenious woman from Mexico to be nominated for an Oscar for her role in the critically acclaimed film, Roma.
Thank you Yalitza for helping to change the paradigm and inspiring millions of people around the world to dream big and know that anything is possible. It was an absolute honor to meet and photograph you! My dad said this morning “Yalitza merce todo el reconocimiento y mas.” I couldn’t agree more.
Shout out @trevortraynor & @imaniluna for assisting me on this special project. I couldn’t have done it without you!

To get in the mood for the oscars and because I recently saw Eight Grade, I had to put together a little post about my thoughts on the best Actress of 2019. I've seen the performance of Glenn Close in the Wife, which was beautiful. I've seen Olivia Colman in The Favourite and was really impressed by her performance. They both sold their Characters. Lady Gaga was ok but I don't think it's oscar worthy.. To my surpise Elsie Fisher wasn't nominated. It may be weird for such a young girl and newcomer to get nominated, but her acting in Eight Grade was exceptional. I did not only buy her performance, I just can't imagine that she is not actually like that. The way she walked, talked and looked were perfect. I related with her , felt sorry for her and her dialogs didn't feel scripted at all! Way better than Gaga x100. Can't say anything about Can you ever forgive me? Or Roma cause I haven't seen them yet. Still @Elsiekfisher should have come above Gaga. #EightGrade#Filmnatics#Movies#Oscars#2019#BestActress#Nominee#Opinion#Elsiefisher#Ladygaga#Astarisborn#Thewife#Thefavourite
