Did you know that Rainbow Starfrontlets are usually seen along the edges of forests and adjacent shrubby areas 🌎🐦?

2.7 grams. That’s all this little Costa’s weighs. A penny weighs 2.4 g. The Anna’s male from the Aztec post weighs 4.5 g.
Several people have asked us what they can do to help these ridiculously tiny fluffs in the cold weather. Putting out a fresh feeder with warm (baby bottle temperature, mild on the wrist) sugar water right before dawn and dusk is helpful. You could up the sugar content when it’s below 50, as well, from 4:1 to 3:1 to give them extra calories. We’ve seen some kind IGers putting out sun lamps and perches on their porches (we 💚 you @nanet103). And leaving out banana peels to attract fruit flies might work, though for some of you in the colder regions we’re not sure that will do much. Thank you all for your love and concern for your hummers. We 💚 you, too.

Purple Sunbird and bee. Was lucky to capture this moment on my first ever nature photography trip.
Starting to understand and appreciate the technical expertise required while shooting in nature. There's a great community of passionate nature photographers who are generous with their advice and encouragement. Thanks @goth75 for making this happen.

It is found in the wetlands of the plains of tropical Asia south of the Himalayas in the Indian Subcontinent and extending into Southeast Asia. Their distinctive pink tertial feathers of the adults give them their name. They forage in flocks in shallow waters along rivers or lakes. They are not migratory and only make short distance movements in some parts of their range in response to changes in weather or food availability or for breeding. Like other storks, they are often seen soaring on thermals. This large stork has a heavy yellow beak with a down-curved tip that gives it a resemblance to an ibis. The head of the adult is bare and orange or reddish in colour. The long tertials are tipped in bright pink and at rest they extend over the back and rump. There is a distinctive black breast band with white scaly markings. The band continues into the underwing coverts and the white tips of the black coverts give it the appearance of white stripes running across the underwing lining.
