Are there any classics you’d like to read?
There’s quite a few that I have yet to read but I’m pretty sure you all know by now how much I love Pride and Prejudice. 🙄
And how beautiful is this print of the mock up for the @waterbellbooks limited edition of Pride and Prejudice?! 😍
It’ll be one of the books available for their Kickstarter which starts at the end of this month and honestly, so much love is going into the making of these books, it’s incredible!
You can check out their account to see the other gorgeous books that will be available, all the funds from their kickstarter will be going into the making of them. ☺️
Bit of a late post today because I’ve had a terrible headache most of the day that has left me curled up on the sofa with a blanket for most of it but better late than never, right! 😂
I hope you’ve all had a lovely weekend. ♥️
Sometimes you need to read something light and entertaining without needing to think too much. Like this finnish urban fantasy trilogy about teenagers who have a spirit animal inside them, and the animal gives them powers like squirrel-like dexterity or the sonar sense of a bat. 🦇🐴🐿️🐲🐘
The Faunoid trilogy was full of romance, drama, action and great dialogue that really impressed me. I read the first book, The Snake Charmer, so I could tell about it at my book talk session at work, and I was hooked! I had to get The Piranha Whisperer and The Magpie Trap instantly, and I read these all within a week. The first book was the best of the bunch, but the other two were also addictive. Too bad these haven't been translated, so I can't recommend them to people who can't read in finnish. 😐 But if you can, check these out if you're into urban YA fantasy. If not for other reason then at least so you can see how funny and witty and real the dialogue between characters can be. 😊 Any of my finnish friends read this? What did you think? .
What are your favorite easy and entertaining reads? Or do you read only so called "serious" literature? 🧐
I had my first ever massage today, and it made me feel so dizzy I barely could walk home. So I guess it's reading in bed for the rest of the day for me. 🥴
I've been feeling really under the weather lately and lost in the disassociation fog. The only thing that's been able to hold my attention (and distract my brain) has been the Detective Inspector Helen Grace series by M.J. Alridge. I tore through the first book in a day and now I'm on the second book and it's proving to be a great distraction! .
Have you read this series? What did you think? .
i’m heading to LA tomorrow for a few days to get some in-person work done! also starting to count down the days until the Oakland Book Fair 🤗📚✨ (photo is one of my fave LA spots @lastbookstorela 📸 @metron_city )
If you could control one element, which would it be? Fire, Water, Air, Earth. I think it’s kind of lucky that the people in the Elementae series don’t get to choose, because choosing is hard! They all have so many amazing aspects. But I think after reading “Imprison the Sky” I’m going with Air, if not just for the ability to fly. .
🌊 “Reign the Earth” (book one) was in my Top 10 of favorite books I read last year, and so I have been eagerly anticipating “Imprison the Sky” and it did not disappoint. Imprison does not follow Shalia, who we came to know in Reign. We get to follow Asp and her crew aboard their ship, which we were made briefly familiar with in Reign. It’s always takes me a little bit to get into a new story with new characters when it’s a sequel. There is always that part of you that wants the story to continue with the characters you came to know and love in the previous book. However, Asp and her crew really grew on me, and it isn’t long before the two stories begin to combine with familiar faces and familiar battles. .
Imprison really takes the powers we began to understand in Reign and show us the many different facets of the abilities. They all aren’t always as straight forward as “controlling air” and it was really interesting to learn more. .
As for you romance lovers, Imprison was way more romantic in the love story department than Reign, as well as featured a bisexual character. I appreciate how Gaughen has written the relationships of her characters to this point and the way they are handled in each different aspect. I can’t dissect it properly in an IG caption, but I appreciate the honesty and strength of the women in them. .
As for my revenge loving heart, let’s just say that I’m still riding the high of one particular chapter in this book and have not been this satisfied in awhile. These stories tackle a lot of complex issues and feelings and “Imprison” did a wonderful job of telling another story while keeping it all in the same plot arc that Reign set in motion— as well as advancing the story and conflict. I already can’t wait for the next step in this series!
🐇 Stories are meant to share a message with the world. In fact, #StanLee said, “A story without a message is like a man without a soul”. (One of my fave quotes!)
🐇 But how do we share a message to our readers without preaching at them? How do we make sure our message is shared in such a way that it inspires readers and doesnt leave a sour taste in their mouth? •
🐇The key is to see the story from both ends of the gun. When you look at each character as a person with a story to tell instead of just “the good guy” vs “the bad guy” you actually give each of them a stronger voice. •
🐇Your job is not to bring your “bad guy” to court ⚖️. It’s to bring the issue to your reader and show them the power of certain choices and their results (❤️vs 💔).
🐇 In James Scott Bell’s book Conflict and Suspense, James puts it perfectly when he says, “Real conflict over an issue is found in the gray areas.” Basically, don’t just make things pure black or white.
🐇If you fairly explore both sides of the issue at hand through your characters, you are more likely to send a message that truly resonates with readers. •
❤️ I hope this Tuesday finds you well and actively smackin’ away at that keyboard!😉 Question: what sort of message are you planning on sharing in your story? Let me know below!🤗😃💬📖

i prefer rainy days for sure. it's constantly sunny and humid here. at least when it rains there's a little drop in the temperature so that's nice. reading on rainy days are super relaxing, too 🌧️🌧️🌧️
school is killing me 😭 i barely get enough reading done in a day and it's the worst. i'm on the verge of a reading slump ever since school started earlier this year. i can't wait for the year to end so i can finally focus on books a hundred percent 😍
Bonjour bonjour !
This is what it's about: a mystery set in modern China, featuring Philip Ye, an Anglo-Chinese homicide detective with the Chengdu Public Security Bureau, who is drawn against his will into the search for a missing, vulnerable boy.
Soon enough the investigation escalates into a murder inquiry and Philip Ye finds himself on the trail of a mysterious figure known as The Willow Woman. However, unbeknownst to Philip Ye, there are secretive and subversive forces at work in the dark heart of the city, and intrigue and mortal danger await them all... Sounds exciting, right!
The road is long. It´s really long. There are more miles or kilometres or however you talk about the distance, than on every street in this world.
Guess which street I´m talking about?
Right. The street of success.
It´s a hard way to walk along there, and it might be more difficult than an hour of runing, but your goal after it, the success will also be bigger.
If you are thinking about giving up, stop it. Quitting won´t help you. It won´t make you stronger, it will just take your last motivation away. Remember why you started and then judt do it. And believe me:
There is always a simple way on this road. ANd sometimes it´s good to go that way. Because if people already had your goal and reached it, look up how they did it. If you want to get up at 5am, you need to go to bed at about 21pm.
Moreover, there is one nice law of maths. Good things will add. No matter, how small your steps are, they will lead you a little bit furher than beofre. No matter, if you work 2 hours a day for success, that makes 730 hours in a year. Great, isn´t it?
Okay, last point: If your are a winner, you want to reach your goal. If you are thinking about your goal, there is also a "why" in this thought. And winners commited. They commited to reach there goal. They commited to do what they need to do for it, they commited to the process of success, they commit to that damn road.
Did you already commit? #mindset #motivation #commit #roadtosuccess
