  • Body positivity: A social/political movement aimed at encouraging and promoting discriminated bodies minority bodies, or any bodies otherwise outside the social norm of beauty. This is an aim of getting all body types recognised and respected in the media and in society. You can’t claim body positivity if you don’t respect ALL body types and abilities. Nothing to do with health.

Positive body image: A mindset of understanding your body’s limits, it’s needs, it’s beauty, and appreciating both its beauty, functionality and beyond. It differs for each person, but ultimately it’s about self acceptance towards your own body.
Self-love: Caring for your physical and mental state. How you self love is dependant on yourself. What might work for one person may not for another, it’s about finding your balance.
These are my definitions for each as I understand them. Some may disagree with certain aspects while others might agree. If you feel these definitions aren’t right, or I missed something out, let me know in the comments so we can have an open and peaceful debate.

  • Let’s talk about female body hair. I want to start this off by saying that Female body hair isn’t any less natural that Male body hair. For some reason female body hair is taboo and it’s seen as something we should be ashamed of. I’ve spoken before about how I reached 6ft at 10 years old and as a result my body went through puberty much earlier than my peers. My mother raised me single handedly until I was 11 and taught me that it’s okay to shave and it’s okay to not to .I decided that shaving wasn’t something I really cared about, however other family members told me that I had “no pride in my appearance” and my peers wouldn’t accept me. This was all simply because I didn’t want to shave. I started to feeling insecure about this and shaved my armpits if I was wearing short sleeves. Over the years I’ve shaved on and off however most of the time I embrace my body in its natural state. It wasn’t until I went to Art school that I found like minded people who had a similar mindset. I became heavily interested in feminism and wanted rebel against society’s standards. People often ask me questions like do you smell quicker or do you sweat a lot because of your body hair. The question to both is no. I don’t notice any difference in smell and I’m not a particularly sweaty person. I 100% respect that other women choose to shave and that’s absolutely fine! I don’t think the problem is shaving it’s not having the choice. The majority of the negative comments I have received about body hair being disgusting have been from men. I refuse to let anyone tell me what I can and can’t do with MY body! I still occasionally shave if it’s annoying me or if I have a specific type of Photoshoot that requires me to have a specific look. But at the end of the day the choice will always be up to me! I know a lot of people, especially women find this difficult to talk about, and this is something we need to change. We shouldn’t let society make us feel insecure about our natural bodies. This post is just a reminder that your body hair is nothing to be ashamed of, it isn’t gross and that it’s 100% up to you if you want to shave it or not. Your body is beautiful either way.🌈❤️🌟💪🏻

Photo: @thephotostudioaustralia
Also side note: you’ll notice belly roles, upper arm flab and cellulite in this pic, which I purposely kept in as a reminder that all of these things feature on all women and this is not a big deal. This should not prevent you from feeling worthy or stopping you from trying new things because you are a big girl. Don’t be afraid to take up space, in the words of icon Jenifer Lewis in Sister Act “you’ve earned it, you deserve it.”

  • I’ve never cried after a workout before, until today 😭.
.
Maybe it was because right before the workout I learned how much of an ass my landlord is 🍑. Maybe it’s because I was upset I didn’t have anyone to help me shovel out my car 🚙. And maybe it was because I tracked my progress from last weeks workout and regardless of any emotional thing I had going on, I totally SLAYED the workout and beat my numbers by almost double 💪🏻.
.
Whatever the reason, I’m only on day 9/42 and I’ve had a mental shift that I CAN DO THIS 💆🏼‍♀️! No matter how busy I am or what emotional stuff I have going on, I can focus on myself and push myself to be the best version of me. #letsdothis

“She’s had work done.” I get comments often that elude to the fact that my weight loss transformation is “FAKE” or that I had to have had “Plastic surgery.” So, honestly, these make laugh... Clearly the comments come from people that don’t follow my journey. I have been VERY vocal that I had plastic surgery. I lost 264 pounds.... I had a LOT of excess skin. In regards to people saying my transformation is “FAKE” or a scam... I hate to tell you this but it’s real. Yeah, someone REALLY did lose 264 pounds... it happens... 😏 I did some thinking about why people say things like that. We as humans are conditioned to believe that we are not capable of incredible transformative life or physical change. We condition ourselves to believe there is not MORE for us. We cannot believe that someone could go from weighing over 400 pounds and one day weigh 151 pounds. We don’t believe it because our self value says we can’t. Well, I’m here to tell you that you CAN. I’m here to show you that with a LOT of hard work and foolish idealism you might mess around and make it. It’s possible. Yeah, I’ve had work done... I’ve had a LOT of work done. I’ve worked on my faith, perseverance, trust issues, feelings of inadequacy, self loathing, and anxiety issues... and I still have to work on it EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. I have had a LOT of work done so that I can live boldly to share my story with the world... in hopes that ONE person might see me online and say ... “Ya know what? I believe in myself and I think I can do that too.” I love you guys. I honestly feel like it’s a massive compliment ... I’ve lost so much weight that it’s inconceivable that it is the same woman... Well, it is the same woman... she’s just had some work done. 😘💁🏽‍♀️☺️

  • When was the last time you tuned in and listened to your body? Letting go of diet rules can be scary. Sometimes people worry that they won’t have any idea what to eat, when to eat or how much to eat. Luckily our bodies come well equipped with signals like hunger and fullness that let us know when to eat and how much to eat. Learning to trust your body to guide you can take some time. If you haven’t listened to your body in a while take some time to explore what hunger and fullness feels like for you.

  • Everyone meet Mickie, aka Fatty 😂🥰 (my cousins cat)

So this holiday is going amazing. The modeling was a great start to it, the plane trip challenged me a little but now I’m (mostly) over my fear of flying, I’ve gotten to spend some time with my little cousin and it’s just like we clicked, like we’ve never been apart, I’ve also had no access to a gym (god forbid! 😱😂) which I think has been good for me. It’s gotten me out of my strict routine and taught me that I don’t need to exercise all the time and that it’s ok to take holidays and not go to the gym every day 😌 I’m having an amazing time, I’m hoping it continues 🤗❤️
