  • 👉🏼 to the end for what GF Parisian pastry does to me 🤤😂 It’s my favorite day in the #BWWreboot—BLOOD SUGAR AND HORMONES! (Wow I’m a nutrition dweeb)

Ferreal though, this is the Number 1 change I would recommend to every single woman for a better, healthier, happier 2019.

That’s because blood sugar spikes disrupt ovulation, halting your production of progesterone, and completely throwing your hormones out of whack--this means PMS, abnormal periods, migraines, anxiety, etc.

In fact, I’m willing to best your post-holidays period is the worst one you’ll have all year, since we go so insane with parties, cookies, drinking, and overeating.

So how do you do it? How do you get off that GD rollercoaster?

These are some of the tips I shared in today’s email:

1. Eat small, frequent meals for a bit—this helps stabilize your blood sugar and retrains ya bod to stop expecting such extreme peaks and valleys.

2. Focus on protein and fats from real foods—these are slower burning and won’t spike your blood sugar. But if you do indulge, pair simple carbs/sugar with P and F to slow down the spike.

3. Cut the sugar—*cue gasps* SHOCKER I KNOW. But I’m talking everything from processed sugar to “clean” stuff like dried fruit and honey. That’s because even the smell of something sweet can trigger an insulin response (#brainbodyconnection people)

OR, you could check out my 12-week blood sugar balance online coaching program where we work 1:1 on your specific diet and lifestyle to implement the full protocol and balance you out (in fact, one of my clients saw her period return after a year’s hiatus with only 2 months on this program) - #linkinbio or DM

Note: If you’re diabetic or struggling with another blood sugar-related condition, please talk to a doctor first! This is not to be used in lieu of medical advice.

⠀
Once you start brushing your teeth (getting your haircut, clipping your nails, going to the chiropractor), you have to do it for the rest of your life.⠀
⠀
🙅 Nonsense.⠀
⠀
You don’t have to do anything. There are many things we each do to maintain our bodies and be our best.⠀
⠀
Remember the 4️⃣ key requirements of the body for health? This is a great place to start when it comes to improving and especially maintaining your health.⠀
⠀
Here's a few reminders and examples on ways to provide regular maintenance to your health:⠀
⠀
🍎 FUEL: Focus on eating REAL food, not from a box, and mostly plants.⠀
🏃‍♀️ MOVE: Find a way to find movement in your day for at least 20 minutes (stretching, walking, gardening, etc). This doesn't have to take place in a gym or all at once.⠀
🔋 RECHARGE: Focus on taking care of your mental state. 2-3 minutes of breathing deeply - getting at least 6-8 hours of sleep.⠀
🧠 BRAIN/BODY CONNECTION: When is the last time you were checked in the office? If you're wondering WHY we recommend regular check-ups and for you to follow your complementary home recommendations, you can read our post on our website (Do I Have to Go to the Chiropractor Forever?).⠀
⠀
When it comes to structural & nervous system health, more often than not, our patients choose to protect the investment they just made in their spinal structure and overall health. They never want to go back to the way they were before corrective chiropractic care, and it becomes an exciting thing to prevent secondary conditions and to maintain health.⠀

I just uploaded a wonderful conversation I had last week with @deannaminich
We discussed anxiety in women and the connection to female-centric physiological changes throughout the life cycle.
We also talked about why there is so much stigma asscociated with anxiety and depression and what we can do to remove it.
Highlights from the video:
Yes, anxiety still has stigma but together we have the power to change that.
When I think of the word stigma, I think of shame. It seems to be part of the untrained human condition to take rumination, feeling of overwhelm or anxiousness and turn it into “I’m not good enough” or “I need to buck up, I need to be able to face what’s on my plate" or even, “why am I failing?” I would prefer in that moment that instead we say, “Isn’t this interesting? I am having this symptom of anxiety. What could it be pointing towards?” I would prefer that we look at the root cause of these feelings of anxiety, overwhelm or depression, which totally shifts things from a place of shame and stigma to a discussion about their biological underpinnings—commonly a disrupted gut-brain axis and inflammation.

Watch the full talk now on IGTV⬆️⬆️ We discuss some super simple ways to cope with anxious thoughts and overwhelm. Also, how to have a conversation with your body and listen to its cues.

  • Last night I had my 3rd class with Mady from @supermandepercussion I am learning to play the African drum and I love it so much! I have always wanted to learn a musical instrument before but I’ve never felt called to anything in particular - until now! I think I did about 5 lessons in primary school for the organ 😹 and that’s it. So I don’t really know any technical terms for things and I’m probs not the best student but I enjoy it a lot. I find it so challenging in some regards because I don’t normally use my brain in the ways I have to for drumming - so it fatigues! Like when we swap between beats and my brain just freezes and it’s like ‘you want me to do what now?!’ 🙊 haha I do genuinely just have to laugh at myself! I’m learning a new skill and a new way of using my brain and body and it feels so good. Our brains are plastic, even as adults, which means they are pliable and can learn new tasks and change old habits. I highly encourage you, if you’ve been thinking about it, try out learning a musical instrument... I highly recommend the African drums 😉 with Mady, but at the end of the day, whatever you are called too! It’ll help keep your brain healthy for longer 👏🏽 Dr L XX
