  • Happy Monday! Photo by @ericlafforgue Rendille Tribesman Jumping, Turkana Lake, Loiyangalani. The most impressive in the north Kenyan tribe is the fact they they really dress like this in their everyday life, not waiting for the tourists to wear such adornments (few tourists go there compared to Maasais areas) and still living their culture. Kenya.

  • "Another image of the wonderful Abusha. Two years ago whilst driving through Jinka in the Omo Valley I spotted a street kid who was ‘different’. He had blue eyes. He is probably of the Ari tribe and his eyes are probably a genetic mutation. Whilst back in the Omo last week on an Alternative Visions Photo Tour, I asked my guide if she could try to find him. She succeeded, hence we were able to photograph him two years later. He is such a nice kid and is now in an orphanage and is going to be adopted and get a chance to have a new life. His eyes, cerulean blue, are incredible and it is perhaps this which has created an opportunity to start afresh."

  • Did you know that #NewbergOregon has a sister city in Japan?!
.
Newberg’s first sister city relationship was established in 2000 partnering Newberg with Wadayama, Japan (now part of Asago City, Japan). The idea behind the city’s sisterhood was to solidify a longstanding connection between middle school students and school representatives from both the Newberg School District and Wadayama of the Hyōgo Prefecture. Mayors from both cities solidified this relationship by signing an agreement on July 30, 2000 during a signing ceremony at Newberg’s Old Fashioned Festival that year; the agreement was signed by Wadayama Mayor Tseneichi Koyama and Newberg Mayor Charles C. Cox. .
In May 2005, three other cities merged with Wadayama to form Asago City. The sister city relationship was extended and reestablished between the City of Newberg and the new Asago, City on February 6, 2007; a new agreement was between Asago City Mayor Hidetoshi Inoue and Newberg Mayor Bob Andrews.

  • I was recently asked about our travels... they asked if we were the touristy type or the ones who like to do what the locals do.
We like to do both. 💚💚💚
We want to see what the culture is proud of, what they want to show us. We also want to see reality. Going into another culture, we want to respect them and celebrate them for who they are. 💚💚💚
We have our reasons we travel- expanding our worldview, seeing the sites and wonders, learning about other cultures- but we also make sure we are not JUST traveling for us. We want to show others that their homes and ways of life are worth seeing and learning about. Their culture is worth celebrating and learning more about. Meeting the people is worth me taking my children across the world so that we do more than just read about a culture, but experience it. 💚💚💚
Do you prefer the tourist hotspots or exploring off the beaten path?
