CHARBAGH | The Khwabeeda Hand-embroidered Chikankari Lehenga Set ‘Khwabeeda’ in Urdu translates to ‘dream-like,’ much like our vision of a Spring Bride.
This set took more than six months to come off the frame. The embroidery features vanishing intricacies of Chikankari that are being revived by our artisans. The skirt panels alternate between dense and scattered patterns in Cotton thread. Finished with borders that reveal an exquisite mix of embroideries in Bakhiya (Herringbone stitches), Murri (like Puffed-rice) and Phanda (knot stitches).
Styled here are two layered dupattas, lightweight yet profuse in workmanship. The Mukaish jaali is hand-embroidered by beating metal into symmetrical patterns on Chiffon. Inspired by ‘Jharokas’ or perforated window screens in Mughal palaces, the edges are skilfully etched with Rose-toned embroidered Organza.
The Sahar Lehenga is delicately embroidered with our signature lightweight hand embroidery emulating fireworks in the skyscape. The Ivory raw Silk skirt finds its appeal with meticulously embroidered French knots and delicate Stem stitches. The border stages a hand-embroidered ‘Jaali khirkhi’ pattern outlined with Resham, Pearls and Zari. The ensemble finds its layered extravagance with the Organza silk Dupattas in Mint and Blush that has a charming Bel spread out with symmetrically etched borders. Finding beauty in simplicity, layered with meticulous handwork and technique, this look has been crafted with love.
The Keneseth Eliyahoo Synagogue, a neoclassical monument neighbouring our flagship store in Mumbai, inspires the Elysian dress. The building’s decorative features include a Mint-tone façade and Victorian stained glass windows.
The stained-glass windows of the Synagogue inspire the embroideries. We have played with positive and negative space, by densely filling one region with 18th Century Bullion knots and leaving some parts bare
The circular panelled border has Guldastaah motifs that are enclosed with ‘pani ka kaam’; Resham threads that mimic delicate waves in water.
