A year later. •
Since I started my competitive career I’ve competed in 14 shows during a period over 5 years. It means that 4,5 of them was spent on a strict diet.
After my last competition at the world championship where I placed second and got my pro card, I really felt that my body and mind had to rest, for real.
Therefore I took a whole year of so that my body and mind would be total recovered and my motivation would get back to the fullest before I step on stage again at my pro debut during 2019.
It’s been a year with focus on catching up important time with friends and family, enjoyed good food & enjoyed all the other important things in life in order to perform in the gym and on stage. I noticed I became more relaxed, it helped me see things a bit clearer & the gym became a pleasure more than a must after all these sessions on strict diet & a lot of cardio during these 4,5 year.
Every session at the gym has not always been the heaviest or the most hardcore, but it’s always felt real good with a lot of energy but hey, I’m not fooling anyone.. during my workouts this year I’ve always pushed myself as ALWAYS and made every rep count but with another plan than the strict competitive one.
And I met a woman I first met 6 years ago, that girl that known me for more the person I am other then the athlete I been all these years. She’s that person that showed me how life needs to be lived once in a while & I found myself full of life, more than ever before.
And, I felt alive again and this year off, is the reason my motivation is the highest it’s ever been cause sometimes, no matter how successful your might be, just once in a while you need to see things out of another perspective and play your cards right in order to win again.
And look what it brought me 😈
U guys with me? Cause this is IT - my motivation is, as I said the highest it’s ever been & I’m ready to bring the whole package to another level at stage in 11 weeks!
Thank you for all the support this far!.

Hi Freunde! N E U E S V I D E O
Heute mal ein Ausreißer: Selbstvertrauen, Wirtschaft, Sozioökonomie, angstgetrieben "Sicherheiten" aufbauen.
™️ @lee_haney_official and Makkawy going at it on stage!
How’s this for a season;
1983 IFBB Grand Prix England – 1st
1983 IFBB Grand Prix World – 1st
1983 IFBB Grand Prix Sweden – 1st
1983 IFBB Grand Prix Switzerland – 1st
1983 IFBB Mr. Olympia – 2nd
1983 IFBB World Pro – 1st
That was Makkawy’s year in 1983!
A big difference between the pros of yesteryear and today is in the frequency of competition. Today it’s not unusual for a pro to do 2 shows a year, hell I’d go as far and say around 2-3 shows are standard... (which is completely understandable btw!)
In the 80s and 90s however the top dogs went around the world and probably averaged something around six shows per year...
The ‘technology’ has advanced today and on average they’re probably more conditioned... but if you look at the @berrydemey s, @richgaspari s etc they new how to hit the nail on the head in terms of conditioning and peaking correctly. Today they all need coaches for that... go figure huh? You get good at what you practice. -

I thought I would give you guys a bit of an insight into me, for those that don't know me.
My name is Dean
I'm 28 years old and live in Kirk Hallam with my gorgeous fiancé.
I never knew what I wanted to do growing up, I was never really any good at school but I loved everything physical so the only subject I've ever received an A for is of course, P.E.
My love for sport took me through Rugby, both at school, 6th form and local clubs. I played basketball for a few years for Chilwell Comets before eventually finding American Football. I played American Football for the @nottinghamcaesars for about 5 years through the youth team and the senior team and I absolutely loved the sport, but the injuries took me away from my other love...the gym.
I first entered a gym in year 10 of secondary school. It was a proper spit and sawdust gym called Muscletone in Stapleford. It has posters and trophies around the room and Mike behind the desk would blend you a protein shake if you worked a sweat up. I fell in love with the atmosphere, the hard work, the constant desire to improve every time I was there.
Years and years later my love for lifting had continued and I tried my hand at a Bench Press only competition at @intrimpower in Long Eaton. I managed to get 165kg but at my bodyweight it wasn't competitive. It was hosted by Rob Drennan with @eddiehallwsm as a judge.
I then prepped for my first bodybuilding competition in 2016, I had no coach and no idea but I fucking loved it. Search for Nabba Midlands First Timers Dean Butler on YouTube and you can see my routine and comparisons.
I didn't place in the show but it didn't matter.
I decided to try again in 2017. This time with a coach and got really shredded. Still didn't place.
I then decided that I wanted to dedicate my time to other people rather than myself, so completed my Level 2 Gym Instructor and Level 3 Personal Training Qualification in 2018 and here I am today.
Boring, I know, but there's a little insight into my journey so far ✌️
You know it’s about to go down when you gotta roll up those sleeves 🤤🤤 double sweet potato fries on point! With honey and cinnamon 😍😍 thanks for capturing this moment @kungfuplana and for pigging our with me babe 🐷🐽
