If you told me a year ago that I would choose to share a photo of my messy studio, half brushed hair, and a naked face, I would not have believed you. I never posted any photos of me, much less one taken not long after I woke up and the only edits that were done were some exposure and white balance correction.
I’ve talked often about how my artistic style and voice has developed and I’ve grown more confident in my work over the past few years, but I’ve also grown more confident in myself through that process.
Art and expression for me are so tied to me and my sense of self that growing more confident in my art had to pair with growing more comfortable with myself.
My personal style has landed somewhere between Number Seven/Vanya without the violin and Wednesday Addams goes hiking (with an occasional splash of a fun hair color.)
My studio is usually fairly tidy, but if it’s not, oh well. It will come back around soon enough. Probably on Friday as I wrap up for the week.
I experience much less FOMO than I did in college and relish the quite Friday nights at home playing a board game with Adam. I love being alone and having the day to myself to just work.
With my 26 years of wisdom, I have learned that my process of growing up has been one of meeting yourself over and over again and learning how to be comfortable with yourself in all the different phases of life. I’m continually learning to be kinder to myself, to give myself more grace when I am struggling.
So cheers to this season of sneaky kittens stealing things mid photo, messy studios, colorful and wild hair, and so much more.
