Went to go see my dad today. These pretty little flowers were springing up near him. Proof life begins anew.
I was bawling while I was there. And I think sometimes I like to think I’m “ok” and “healed” and then I realize that while life keeps going, when you stop and remember what you lost, the tears still flow.
I had so many memories cross my mind while I was there. I remembered building with him in the backyard in Thousand Oaks, and the spa in the old home, and the father daughter dance we went to. All these beautiful moments began to pour in, and I realized I have led a blessed life, and I owe it to my dad to let the fruit of that be more than to roll over and give up. Or to stay in mourning over what was lost.
I cried to him that sometimes I don’t think I can write and that I fear not being able to make it or being good enough. I meditated on his words, words he spoke to me in his last days when we talked about what I wanted out of life. “just write. Just do it.” I remembered his big bear hugs and I felt overwhelmed with happiness at the familiarity and how close the memories seemed when I closed my eyes and sadness that they had come and gone.
