The red-veined darter or nomad (Sympetrum fonscolombii) is a dragonfly of the genus Sympetrum. There is genetic and behavioural evidence that S. fonscolombii is not closely related to the other members of the genus Sympetrum and it will at some time in the future be removed from this genus. Sympetrum fonscolombii was named under the protonym Libellula fonscolombii by the Belgian entomologist Edmond de Sélys Longchamps, in 1840, in honor of the French entomologist Étienne of Fonscolombe (hence the species name). Its name is sometimes spelt fonscolombei instead of fonscolombii but Askew (2004) gives the latter as the correct spelling.

Gonna squeeze one more post in before the week drags me under again! The Common Green Darner (Anax junius) is a stunning, large, green and blue dragonfly that measures up to 80mm in length. They are the most prominent migratory dragonfly species in Texas and are the only North American darners that regularly lay eggs in tandem. The females have a similar green head and thorax but lack the male’s blue tail coloring, donning a dull, brown color instead. Darners are members of the insect family Aeshnidae and get their common North American name from their darning needle-like appearance but are referred to as hawkers throughout Europe and the UK. The Common Green looks nearly identical to its Euro-African cousin, the Blue Emperor (Anax imperator) but has more brownish eyes and lacks a central black line on S2 of the tail. You’ll never have to worry about confusing them in the wild however since they don’t occur in each others regions of the world.

”Be bold enough to live life on your terms, and never, ever apologize for it. Go against the grain, refuse to conform, take the road less traveled instead of the well-beaten path. Laugh in the face of adversity, and leap before you look. Dance as though EVERYBODY is watching.”
Art altar. Fellow artists do you sometimes find it heartbreaking to put your art away? I know some artists who say that they don't want to look at a piece once it's finished. They are ready for it to be on its way to its new home. But for me, the process of the art emerging is the most beautiful & then when it's done I feel a bit sad to put it away. I feel that it has more to tell me ,open in me since it came through me. It's not an ego-based thing that I think my art is so beautiful it has to be out all the time. I know my art is kind of quirky and intense... Putting them all away in a portfolio just seems wrong. They seem to have a life now that needs to breathe and move and have light shed on it from the window. The originals feel like they belong to me, And maybe my grandchildren someday who will look at them and say wow grandma was a serious art witch!. ...Which is why I Mostly sell prints. Unless someone orders an original just for them and in that case I am able to channel the energy for them and allow the piece to be theirs. Anyway I have been so prolific with my art in the last years that I could never leave it all out so I rotate what is out and give it the opportunity to breathe. I know it's the energy created while I am in the process that is eternal and put out into the universe even as I'm bringing the tangibility of the art into the universe. That is what remains, regardless ofwhat happens to the art as time goes by....
