Insider secret -- Rosie gets really upset 😡 when we (aka I) allow garnishes or fruit to go bad. So, when we buy a bushel of fruit for making cocktails, we have to find a way to quickly use the remaining produce. That either means we have a number of cocktails themed after said produce or we make a syrup, shrub or do some other infusion. So, if you've been following our profile, you know we just did a lovely drink with frosty #blackberries. Not wanting the remaining basket to go to waste, we kept some to use as future garnish while a majority went into a wonderful #shrub. A shrub that took advantage of another bulbous vegetable that we also recently used.

Red Sparrow
▪️1.5oz @fewspirits Breakfast #Gin
▪️.75oz Creme de Mure
▪️1oz #Blackberry #Fennel Shrub
▪️.75oz @giuliococchi Americano Aperitif
▪️1oz Lemon 🍋
▪️Egg White 🥚

Mix all ingredients in shaker, and reverse dry shake rigorously for about 30 seconds. Double strain into coupe grass. Garnish with blackberries and small herb of your choosing.

Now - This is strange. We expected a blackberry sour of sorts, but were surprised to find that our Red Sparrow has a lot of red grape notes to it. Why why why?!? We honestly couldn't place where the flavor was coming from, save for maybe that is what's being mimicked when you combine blackberry, fennel and the Americano. The shrub was made with a red wine vinegar -- we normally use balsamic but were out -- so not sure if that might have had something to do with it as well. Besides the surprising hints of grape, this fruity sour 😋 starts off sweet on the palate but quickly shows its more bitter side at the end of every sip. Which is perfect, as we don't something akin to a sweet fruit smoothy. The fennel is there in the greatest of ways. While we first though we would be able to pick up direct notes of licorice or anise, we instead get something that can only be described as "garden-ish". At least, so said a friend. That's fine, we'll take it, as this concoction saw our tasters jumping for refills at first opportunity. No greater compliment, right? 🤔
