🇬🇧 #curiosities :in the past it was required Minister of the Interior’s presence in the delivery room to confirm and testify Royal Baby’s birth. The tradition dates back to the XVII century, when it was thought that King James II and Queen Maria Beatrice’s son, James Stuart, died at birth and he was replaced with another child delivered through a secret door.
When Queen Elizabeth was born in 1926, the Minister was present but this tradition ended shortly thereafter, well before Prince Charles’ birth in 1948.
Fathers could not attended birth but today times have changed and Prince William has witnessed the birth of his three children.
THE QUEEN'S FAMILY TREE BRANCH FOUR: Prince Edward Antony Richard Louis was born on March 10, 1964 when his mother was almost 38 years old. When the Quen had come to the throne, Prince Chatles and Princess Anne were very young. While still attached and caring to her two children, her devotion to duty and determination to learn her role well meant that she didnt always have the time to spend with them that she wanted. However, with the birth of Prince Andrew in 1960, a decade after the births of her first two children, and the birth of Prince Edward in 1964, the Queen took more time away from royal duties to focus on being a mother. She had been on the throne about 12 years by that point and was thrilled to have added two children to her family. I think Andrew and Edward were very special to her in that way. Prince Edward grew up with a very close relationship with his mother that he has to this day. He graduated from Cambridge in 1986. In January 1999, his engagement was announced to Sophie Rhys-Jones. The pair wed the following June at St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle. They are now known as the Earl and Countess of Wessex. Sophie is considered quite a favorite of the Queen's and visits her often. Edward is the only one of the Queen's four children to have never divorced. Edward and Sophie have two children, Lady Louis Windsor (b. 2003) and James, Viscount Severn (b. 2007). I hope you have been enjoying this series!
