  • Bull Moose - Denali National Park - Alaska

https://barbaraeddyphotography.com

Spending time with wildlife is a special experience for me and the bonus is to bring home some nice images.  Some days you drive or hike for hours and come back with nothing except the adventure which can be rewarding enough.  Other days are exceptional and you shoot remarkable images.

While in Denali National Park last year I had a good day observing and photographing wildlife.  This bull moose was the highlight of one day.  I found him in the willows near the road and stayed a safe distance from him and photographed as he foraged in the willows.  The bull paid no attention but when another bull moose appeared he crossed the road and melded into the distant willows just steps behind the other bull.

I had little time to think about my shooting.  I needed to be quick to take advantage of the clearing in the brush and shot my first shot, checking my histogram for the correct exposure.  When I knew my exposure was correct I kept shooting. I shot at ISO 500 with a shutter speed of 1/320 which was fast enough for a slow-moving moose.  Because the moose was close I used my Nikon 70-200mm lens.  Even with the short lens, I used my tripod because I like having the support.

I hope during your year you have some time to watch and enjoy the wildlife.

Enjoy the journey.
