  • A must read from @zero.waste.collective - 💚Make your zero waste life work for you. Choose what you want to include, and remove and exclude what doesn't serve you. Find your motivation, and consider it daily when you're making choices. Inform yourself the best you can. Know that zero waste isn't accessible to all people in all the same ways. Your personal, family, community circumstances and beyond may impact (positively or negatively) your experience with the zero waste lifestyle. And the term 'zero' can be debilitating as well. Call it what you like. Low waste? Low impact? Eco-friendly? Whatever lens you want to use to describe your new awareness and change in habits is totally up to you. Even the way I'm writing this message is completely informed by how I perceive the world, so it may not be relatable to everyone. 💕If you're new to zero waste living, definitely start with Bea Johnson's book, Zero Waste Home. @zerowastehome

♻️While there may be excessive reusable options out there (the point of the red Xs in the image, perhaps?), it's great that they are available. When I leave my house, I'm reminded that choosing to reuse IS NOT THE NORM, IT IS THE EXCEPTION. I hope that The Zero Waste Collective helps to inspire people to choose resuables and make choices that help reduce our waste.

✅ I also want to note that there is SO MUCH emphasis on personal decisions regarding household waste. It is only part of the waste conversation. For example, in Canada, urban waste accounts for 1/3 of total waste. The rest comes from mines, agriculture, and the military. In addition, institutional, commercial, and industrial waste are not collected by municipalities, but private haulers and research has shown only they only divert 13% to recycling. source: Oct 2018 Reader's Digest - thanks mom!

💚Beeswax or no beeswax wraps? That's up to you. But we also need to look at the bigger picture of our waste. 🌿#zerowastecollective #youdoyou 📷: purchased from Shutterstock by @zero.waste.collective

  • Stop this madness!!! #govegan #Repost @anonymousforthevoiceless with @get_repost

“As humans, we kill billions of wild animals today, to protect the animals that we eat. Then we destroy our environment to feed the animals we eat. We spend more time, money, and resources fattening up the animals that we eat than we do feeding humans who are dying of hunger. The greatest irony is that after all the expenses of raising these animals, we eat them—and they kill us, slowly. And rather than recognize this madness, we torture and murder millions of other animals, trying to find a cure to the diseases caused by eating animals in the first place. As far as eating is concerned, human beings are the most stupid animal on the planet.”⁣

  • Hey @oceanmistfarms of Castroville California, I find your artichokes to be delicious. Sadly, I found one of your plastic produce labels way down here @montanadeoro . Why do you use plastic produce labels? Be the industry leader you proclaim to be and stop using plastic. Since I didn’t know anything about artichoke growing until I found your pollution on my pristine beach, I started reading. I spent time doing farm labor as a kid (loading/unloading hay and cutting tobacco). Harvesting crops is brutal on the body. I was surprised at how low farm workers are paid in California. In fact, farm workers are paid more in the “exploit your labor” state of Indiana. My point @oceanmistfarms: stop underpaying your field labor. Yet another point @oceanmistfarms: why are you growing artichokes in Mexico? Does the lack of labor protections and pesticide enforcement increase your bottom line? @oceanmistfarms I have friends from that region of Mexico, and I assure you that you are absolutely exploiting the hard working people of Guanajuato. I investigated further, and you are not the only exploiters of labor involved in artichoke farming. Your competitors at CaraMia products are currently raping Peru. Large American agribusiness is as well. @oceanmistfarms please stop producing artificially cheap food on the backs of worker and environmental exploitation. @oceanmistfarms please let’s have a conversation #artichokes #farming #globalization #agribusiness #environment #exploitation #peru #mexico #plastic #workers #farmworkers #pacificbeach #california #centralcoast
