Here’s a selection of the tools and inks I use for linocut printing.
I started last year with a linocutting starter kit but quickly upgraded to Swiss Pfeil specialist lino cutting tools, they are fantastic and I now couldn’t do without them. I also recently got a Flexcut SlipStrop tool sharpening kit to keep them nice and honed.
I predominantly use Cranfield Caligo Safewash inks and print on to Zerkall 145gsm part cotton rag acid free printmaking paper. I initially tried thicker paper but struggled to get good ink transfer when using a baren or spoon, I now consistently get good results with this paper whether printing by hand or with a press.
I use the traditional battleship grey art linoleum from Essdee. I’ve tried the soft cut but found it a bit rubbery, I would definitely like to try the Japanese printmaking vinyl at some point.
I have a number of brayers (rollers) but my favourite is by Abig.
Finally, I use a vintage book press and pad it with newspaper to create the print.

I feel pretty much speechless... (well, obviously things like “holy crap?!”, if you’ll pardon my french, comes to mind...) I genuinely don’t know how to express my astonishment over reaching this 30K followers milestone, nor to convey my immense gratitude over the incalculable impact your support and encouragement has had on my life. Just... thank you from the bottom of my heart♥️♥️♥️ To celebrate, a giveaway is coming up, and it will be an exciting event, with some special goodies at stake! Stay tuned for the last week of September, when all will be revealed 😘♥️🎁

You may have noticed that I skipped a day yesterday. I’ve decided to make 6 prints a week and one drawing! So yesterday I did some drawing instead!
It’s been really nice to focus on something different - this print is my first free hand pattern! Definitely becoming more confident with the lino cutter every day. #printmaking#linocutprint#stamp#pattern#psychedelic#essdee
Huge congratulations to Tricia Johnson who is the winner of the Handprinted competition to design a Collaborative Linocut. Her stunning design will be carved by visitors to our stand at Creativeworld (26-29 January). Keep an eye on our posts to see how the carving progresses!
