  • A series of chicken buses from Antigua has taken me to the beautiful beaches of El Paredon.
It's a peaceful area with black sand beaches, great surf, laid back people and a bunch of cool beach hostels/hotels.

I'm staying at @pacificoelparedon for a few days, reading, swimming, relaxing and eating their delicious wood fired pizzas! 🍕😍 #guatemala

  • If you watched our stories last week, you probably saw how difficult this trek was for our entire family, but especially for our youngest. 😨 To give you an idea of how hard this hike is, one of our guides (who’s been guiding this trek for 14 years) told us that he’s only seen a dozen or so kids under the age of 12 summit this volcano without being carried. It’s not just the elevation gain that makes it so difficult either, it is the combination of the altitude (the summit sits at 14,000 feet or 4200 meters), the steepness and then the loose lava rock at different sections of the trail (especially the last section of the trail to the summit) that make this hike so challenging. 😳
.
During the last 300 meters or so of the hike, there were times we all got frustrated and wanted to give up. We were exhausted beyond belief and the elevation made it so much harder to breathe. There was a point when our youngest slipped and fell which just set him off--he was done. 🙅🏼‍♂️ He didn’t want to make the final push to the summit. We reassured him that the hardest part would soon be over, and that he couldn’t come this far without making it to the top. Eventually he pulled himself together and rallied. 💪🏼 Slowly but surely, he inched himself to the summit. As he made his way to our group, everyone cheered him on.
.
I fell apart when I saw him make it to the summit. 😭 I was so proud of him for digging deep and not giving up. As we sat watching the sunset and Fuego erupt, he looked over his shoulder, smiled and quietly mumbled, “This was worth it.” 🙏🏼
.
And it was. All the pain, all the exhaustion, all the moments we questioned that we would make it were worth sitting atop this volcano together and witnessing one of the most beautiful sights we had ever seen. 🌋🤩 #wecandohardthings

  • Sometimes it’s hard to believe the world is full of crazy places like hobbit houses on the sides of mountains in the middle of Guatemala ✨🤷🏼‍♀️

Life has been SO crazy lately with new clients, planning my move, and trying to find time for my next trip. I have a few trips in the works but nothing booked and it’s giving me serious anxiety! Where are you guys all headed next? (And can I come with lol)

  • Kids are amazingly resilient and adaptable. We always knew that prior to our travels, but our boys have really surpassed all of our expectations so far. A couple of months ago before we left, we were having a discussion with our youngest who was struggling to understand how leaving everything behind (family, friends, our house, our DOG) was going to be worth it.
.
Through his tears and worried expression, he said, “It sure seems like we’re sacrificing a lot. What do we have to gain besides going to cool places?” It broke my heart to see him so sad and unsure of our plans all of a sudden. 😢 But we reassured him that we would learn a lot, meet so many people from all walks of life, and have experiences together that so few at his age (or any age) get to have.
.
“Just trust us, ok?” I quietly pleaded, clinging onto the hope that we were speaking the truth. 🙏🏼
.
Almost a month into our journey and it’s been incredible to see the transformation in our kids. They have adapted so well, if anything better than us adults! 🤣 Their confidence, their willingness to try and learn new things, and their resolve to just soak up the experience with their eyes wide open is nothing short of miraculous. Anytime we talk to someone and tell them what we are doing, their response to the boys is always, “Do you kids even know how lucky you are?”
.
With a smile, they confidently say, “YES” now. That alone makes all the effort, the stress, the planning, and the uncertainty worth it. ❤️

Kahvem ise birkaç gündür söylediğim;
#starbucks #guatemala kahvesi cidden sert kahve sevmeyenler için çok iyi bir lezzet. İçinde kakao ve fındık aromalark bulunuyor. Çok eskiden fındıklı tek içinlik kahvelere bayılırdım🤓 Bir dahakine de veranda denemeyi düşünüyorum o da çok kavrulmamış hafif olduğunu iddia eden bir çeşit✌🏻 Bu arada eskiden ben filtre kahvelerimi Kahve Dünyasından alıyordum çünkü Türk markası diye ama baktım sürekli kahve içmeye oraya değil starbucks a gider oldum o yüzden eve alırken de starbucks a döndüm. 250 gramı 37₺ ve en az 25 bardak çıkıyor ve 1 bardak 1.5 ₺ ya denk geliyor 😂🙈 Evde yapması aşırı uyguna geliyor. Hazır evimize çok yakın açılmışken bu iyi oldu. Evde istediğim ölçüler oluyor hem. Yine dışardayken oraya da gidiyorum ama dün gittiğimizde ben içmek istemedim mesrla eve gelince içeceğim için🙈 Kendim hazırlayıp içmeyi yemeyi çok çok seviyorum 💕 #şekersizfıstıkezmesi #kayısı #peanutbutter #starbucks #filtrekahve #damlaçikolata #detoks #detox #evyapımıfıstıkezmesi #hafifbeslenme #sağlıklıbeslenme #coffee#kahve#kahveleyfi

  • There is a group of adorable dogs that live on Volcan Acatenango, Guatemala. They survive on what food they get from tourists and guides. They are truly the nicest dogs you will ever meet. One followed us all the way from the base of the Volcano to the summit. #natgeo100contest

No les había contado pero fuimos a conocer el Boquerón en Izabal. Una chulada de lugar :') El otro cañón que conozco es el que está entre Río Dulce y el mar. ¿Hay más cañones en Guate?
