This is one of a mysterious wall carvings at Gangaikonda Cholapuram Temple in India.
Experts say that this carving depicts Lord shiva coronating Rajendra Chola, the successor of Raja Raja Chola. How could such an event be possible? What is your view on this? Have you ever come across such folklore ?
Just a pitstop somewhere in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu.
We were driving back to catch the bus. And we were driving fast lest we miss it. We reached just by the neck of time so there, we had a moment of mission successful!
That said, we missed capturing a few grand, really grand landscapes, endless lush paddy fields dotted by tall palm trees and coconut trees, as if they are safeguarding the ancient empire of Chola kingdom, and the mystic Devarahasyam, believed to be stored inside the thousand tonne stone carvings of temple top at Gangaikonda Cholapuram. And Sun sets behind them words fail to capture that beauty. You gotta witness this!
Tamil Nadu had been amazing, and that is practically saying nothing about her hospitality. I met the warmest people on the road, always ready to bridge the gap by offering an extra bit of care. .
After the ugly incident at BMTC bus in Bangalore, I was really skeptical traveling to Tamil Nadu's off the beaten road. I was traveling on a budget and intended to use the yellow Public buses (and long live them) to commute. I asked around many travel groups and people assured English is at least understood.
And when English failed, a smile did. As it always does in India. The farmer lady selling tomatoes were ever generous to lend me her nosepin. The lady with ear rings and in a worn out Kalamkari saree took the pain to find me a matching ear ring from her cart. The elderly man explained how exactly degree Kapi (a Kombakanam speciality) is made. He spent his youth in the grim alleys of Barabazar, Kolkata and could speak broken Hindi. He remembered the vibrant days of Durgapuja.
People so kind, I had teary eyes, more often that not. Tamil Nadu, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart for the beautiful days❣️
