🇬🇧Hohenzollern Castle is located in Germany, not far from the city of Stuttgart. It was the ancestral seat of the imperial House of Hohenzollern. The family lived here since Middle Age to the First World War. The first fortress on the mountain was constructed in the early 11th century, then it was destroyed in 1423 after a ten-month siege by the free imperial cities of Swabia. A larger and sturdier structure was constructed from 1454 to 1461, which served as a refuge for the Catholic Swabian Hohenzollerns, including during the Thirty Years' War. By the end of the 18th century it fall into disrepair, leading to the demolition of several dilapidated buildings. Today remains only the chapel of the original medieval building. The third re-building (the castle we see today) happened between 1846 and 1867 in neo-Gothic style.🏛🗿

#visitluebeck
We’re home. We’ve been up for hours...it was a really early start from Cologne this morning and then we were delayed at the airport because of fog in the UK. I was really annoyed with @eurowings for their crazy system of not allowing us to have a seat when we booked and then if you miss the free seats (which we did) saying we had to buy a seat (very confusing and very annoying and expensive). However I can’t fault the airline for how well they looked after us all, exploring exactly what the fog meant to the planes and how they would be getting us safely home. It was very good. So now we’re back, having had an amazing week exploring Cologne and Bonn, a bit tired and eating probably too much German marzipan! I like this statue which we saw yesterday which sums up my current state of mind at the holidays being over 😂
