  • A realization I’ve increasingly felt but only recently channeled into concrete thoughts and words: so much of our lives and societies are based on *fear*. Is this is an already obvious thing to others?

I don’t mean the acutely physiological type of fear, but rather the non-boundaried fears x that dictate lives and decisions: what if I don’t get enough of x, what if I can’t achieve x, what if others have more of x than me, what if I miss out on x, what if I regret doing/not doing x, what if I get punished now/later for x, what if x happens to someone/something I love, what if x doesn’t want/love me, what if I fail at x… and so on and so on, all the terrifying x’s from high level societal constructs and institutions down to our daily life choices, relationships and goals.

Fear is such a tremendously motivating+paralyzing survival force and therefore an integral shaper of our species evolution and individual development. Ubiquitously so, it does serve a necessary function. What I’m seeing in a new way is how rare it is to make choices that are truly free of fear. But when it does happen, when something is chosen/created with whatever you feel is the opposite of fear - courage/freedom/love/joy - those are the choices and turning points that lead to the biggest changes and shine the brightest in illuminating your past and future.
Remember those moments in your life?

What if we did more of that- what if in the brief time we have to live, we live with less fear? Learn to recognize and minimize fear in decision making = gain more true agency?
-
Although I’m generally not the new year’s resolutions type of person, all of this rambling is to say - if I had to formulate a resolution, it’s that I resolve to be more conscious of assumed/habitual fears. I want to try to exclude those as much as possible when making paths and choices. Because I’m certain fears are weights, and we’ll fly higher with unweighted wings.

  • Visited the race expo today and went ahead and signed up for 2020! They offer such a good deal that you can’t pass it up.
And, who wouldn’t want to be in Arizona in January?!?!?
Then I hiked/ran up to Piestewa’s Peak and enjoyed the beautiful views!
Saw a cool little hummingbird on my way up too.
Tomorrow we run the 5k and Sunday is the 1/2 marathon. Looking forward to enjoying the sights and this amazing weather! ...

  • I could get used to hiking in snow. There’s something peaceful about seeing snow on the trees and mountain tops. After the work week I’ve had I’m Excited for the weekend 😁
