It felt as if we woke up in a freezer on Day 7! The temperatures reached -4° celcius!
We had a special breakfast of mushroom and cheese omlettes with toast and started our walk towards Pheriche.
Pheriche is a small village in the Khumbu region situated at 4370 mtrs above sea level. We climbed from Deboche (3800 mtrs) to Pheriche (4370 mtrs) in just about 6 Hrs and 30 minutes (including the stop for lunch!). The trek is really scenic and you get to see a lot of peaks around! Everest and Lhotse are almost always in clear view but Ama Dablam steals the show again.
We reach ever so close to Mt Ama Dablam and man, the peak looks massive, beautiful and lethal! You can easily make out the hanging glacier just below the summit and above the camp 3 on the mountain!
We reached a small village called Somare where we had Thukpa for lunch. From here the trail starts ascending gradually to Pheriche. It was really cold here and we had to pull up our jackets even when the sun was out!
Pheriche marked the end of the cellphone reception for my Nepal sim card by "Ncell" and I had to buy the wifi from our hotel for 2000 bucks!
As soon as we reached Pheriche, a few of our members including me started feeling the effects of the altitude. We battled through the headache and nausea with a never ending game of Uno and some Honey Ginger lemon tea.
The higher you go, the costlier the mountain are. The hotel charges 500 bucks to charge a phone and 800 for a power bank!
Our Sherpa guide informed us that the real challenge lies tomorrow, where we move upto 4900 mtrs! Stay tuned for further updates! #everest#everestbasecamp#himalayan#himalayangeographic#himalayas#natgeo#theherbalmonks#nepal#nepaltourism#mountains#mountaineering#Trekking#hiking
