  • One of my goals this year is to be more outgoing and less hermit like. So instead of wasting this Family Day on the couch with one of my current reads I've decided to meet up with friends I haven't seen in months, some since November. It's just coffee and maybe a light lunch of sushi but still I'm having a little anxiety, I'm not prepared for the amount of talking it'll require to catch up with them. I shouldn't feel social anxiety with people I've known for years and consider my closest friends but apparently I do. Thank to the demands of adulthood we don't get a lot of time to see each other so I'm determined to overcome my hangups and make the most of this day. Do you have social anxiety? If so, how do you deal with it? My cozy couch is calling me at the moment, telling me to make an excuse and cancel but I'm ignoring it with everything in me.

I'm looking forward to enjoying a day off with some of my favourite people but I'm also excited to coming back and starting The Smiling Man by Joseph Knox. I've heard nothing but good things about it and even though it sounds like a Criminal Minds episode which never fail scare me I can't wait to read it. Are there any Mystery or Detective books you're excited to read this year? If so what are they? I could always use the recommendations.

Happy Monday lovelies, I hope you're having a great day 💕 #slowlivingforlife #onthetable #momentsofmine #culturetripbooks #currentlyreading

#FightClub
#OscarMondadori
Alla staticità de #Lidiota della #Batuman, dovevo necessariamente contrapporre la frenesia della scrittura di Palahniuk: ripetizioni, linguaggi violenti, slang.

È una bella corsa fino all'ultimo k.o. 🏃🏽‍♂️🥊 Tranquilli, quello è mercurio cromo. E per levarlo c'è voluto giusto qualche giorno.

  • Reading now and reading next.✨⠀
⠀
Here’s what I’m hoping to finish up this month. Currently reading Virgil Wander with @nothxwerebooked and loving it. Leif Enger’s voice is just so witty and thoughtful. Next up is The Last Romantics (thank you @tlcbooktours and @williammorrowbooks!!) and Meet Me at the Museum, another epistolary novel (loving this style so much) for the MMD book club. ⠀
⠀
⠀
⠀
Also, random question for those who utilize their libraries: does your system have late fees? I was recently chatting with my librarian about how our county is working to eliminate late fees and she mentioned that many other systems have already done so. I asked how she thought that would affect returns (since as a patron who heavily uses the holds feature, I rely on others to promptly return) and she said that it has been found that regardless of fees, some people will always return on time and some won’t. So I’m curious if your system has eliminated fees, how you think that has or hasn’t changed things?🤔⠀

  • Gary has learnt a new trick and now he’s putting the sit in Book Depo-sit-ory. In fact, I’m astounded he’s staying still when Book Depository is running such an exciting competition in celebration of reaching 20 million bought books! To participate, all you have to do is go to https://bit.ly/2CUsgh5 and create a wishlist of 5 books before 22nd February. In return, you’ll go into the running to win an iPad Mini and £100 worth of books. Or to be one of 20 runners up who wins £100 worth of books from their very own wishlist! Not to mention, as always, there’ll be free delivery, which Gary particularly loves, because it gives him the opportunity to chase the postman. We’re both so excited we can’t houndle it! You could say we’re getting gary-ed away 🐶
Here are our wishlists:
Gary
1. The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold
2. A Dog’s Purpose by W. Bruce Cameron
3. The Friend by Sigrid Nunez
4. Life on a Leash by Victoria Schade
5. The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein (to replace his Mama’s copy, which he’ll probably have destroyed by the time you’ve read this post)
The ASI
1. The Care and Feeding of Ravenously Hungry Girls by Anissa Gray
2. The Travelling Cat Chronicles by Hiro Arkawa
3. Here and Now and Then by Mike Chen
4. Stay Up with Hugo Best by Erin Somers
5. Queenie by Candice Carty-Williams

  • Olá, queridos e queridas!
Hoje é dia de falar de Os cinco do ciclo de @eliasflamel5 let's go?
.
A discussão é atual e válida.

  • Today has been a lazy day off but I will gladly take any reason to get outside and get some buddy reading done.
🌳
We have this tree at our junction where the two rivers meet in town. It’s well over 100 years old and I love it.
🌳
It offers seating and shade! I bet my brothers and I could have had an amazing treehouse here.
🌳
Did you have a treehouse growing up?

  • “nice things don’t happen in storybooks. or when they do happen, something bad happens next. because otherwise the story would be boring and no one would read it.” 👑🖤 i finished the cruel prince. 🦔

i was completely captivated by the world of Faerie from the get go. holly black’s writing is so clever and poignant that i genuinely found myself loving this space and wanting to learn and understand as much as i could about Faerie and the fey that reside there. 🦔

that said, i found jude to be… really fucking annoying. i wanted to love jude and to root for her after the horrible start. she was characterised as a badass and “if you hurt me, i wouldn’t cry. i would hurt you back.” so then why did i find her to be a ~sometimes badass~. sometimes she’d be strong as hell and i'd be cheering. but it was interwoven with repetitive notions of “madoc is my dad, i must ask his permission, blah” and “madoc killed my parents, i can’t love him but i do love him he is my father a tiny bit but also he killed my parents so i can’t love him TOO MUCh.” also her obsession with her mortality/immortality like… constantly weaving between “i don’t want to be like them” and then clearly fucking wanting to be like them. it just got real old hearing the same stuff repeated from her. 🦔

i'm also not a fan of the hate-to-love trope. it’s gross. maybe it’s because i work at a women’s domestic violence refuge and run a billion workshops on safe relationships and all that… but depictions of unhealthy relationships and abusive/harmful dynamics disguised as “”romance”” is just really fucking gross to me. jude/cardan is gross. i don’t care that his home life wasn’t great. still unhealthy, still unacceptable, still gross. the whole “i hate you because i can’t get you out of my mind” ugh 🙄 🦔

despite these two major issues that i had, i really did enjoy reading the book. i don’t think this was a particularly earth shattering read but i am glad that i read it and i'm going to be happy to read a wicked king. it gets 🦔🦔🦔 hedgehogs.

- Bang-Bang You're Dead / Muriel Spark
— — —
January's Quote (how apt): “I can pinpoint that as the single happiest moment of my life, because I realised then that mom would always have my back. It made me feel giant. I raced back down the concrete ramp, faster than I ever had before, so fast I should have fallen, but I didn't fall, because mom was in the world.”
- Where'd You Go, Bernadette / Maria Semple (e-book)

385 days have slipped away, since my last post. 245 friends remain; thank you for sticking to a (practically) non-existent account. x

Jillian Murphy has always pushed herself to excel at everything: school, athletics, career.
But at what price?
A business adventure in the Bahamas shows her that those who work hard, play harder.
Fantasies become realities.
What will happen when emotions become involved and her heart belongs to not one man, but two.
