  • 4 Years ago I wanted to adopt a kitten. Once I chose one and went home, I saw Lea on the animal shelter's facebook page. I sent it to my fiance, and he immediately asked me if we can have her.
Right then and there I phoned the animal welfare and asked them if we could foster her with the option to adopt, and if we could come and get her as soon as the adoption papers went through for Nina (our cat) and we would could come and get her.

The next day we drove through to go and get them. What an exiting day it was!! I couldn't wait to go and get Lea (then named Macaroni because her ribs stood out so much), and introduce her to a new and better life! To show her that not all people are bad. It wasn't as easy as I had thought. I had to win her trust. She wasn't house trained. She didn't know her name. Our dog (Jake - also a pitbull of 3 years old then) felt confused and out of place.
Our whole life had changed. We had a new kitten and a very scared and confused dog along with our now scared and confused dog. It was emotionally draining. We had to feed Lea about 6 small meals a day. Because she was so underfed she was very protective of her food. We could get close to her while she was eating but our other animals couldn't. At night i would wake up with her in my arms screaming because of the nightmares she had.

It was a bumpy ride, BUT... with time, everything got better. She crawled into our hearts deeper and deeper. She is the most amazing, most grateful pupper ever. And I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.
