One of my favourite sides.
Broccoli with almonds, fried garlic, red onions and chilly flakes. It was inspired by @giorgiolocatelli1 - it looks simple but takes time to master.
Toast the almonds flakes in a non stick pan and set aside. Blanch broccoli in boiling salted water for a few minutes. In a pan with olive oil, fry some garlic scales, red onion and chilly flakes. Finally, bring everything together.
Yesterday was the Feast of San Sebastiano (Saint Sebastian), the patron saint of our family town in Tortorici, Sicily. It is a traditional custom for men and women to dress “nudo” (nude) in all white and walk barefoot along the icy gravel road. Women wear a white headscarf while Men wear a loincloth as a symbol of what Saint Sebastian wore when he was tied to a tree and shot with multiple arrows. I’ve been lucky enough to take part in this tradition several times, which has strong ties with my family and involved weeks of preparations from distributing blessed bread rolls to the village, bringing Saint Sebastiano to the elderly and collecting donations for the church. Swipe right for a throwback to when I was 13 and decided I’d dress nudo for the festa and @vfoticuzzola and I were rocking some great hairdos. And Buon Onamastico to all the Sebastiano’s,Sebastiana’s, Sebastian’s and Sebastianellas! Tortorici #SaintSebastian#SanSebastiano#Ladolcevita#dinewithdaniele#picoftheday
