  • The heart of a hiker! 🙂 what a great message! @stephlotus_ - "GOD·DESS
/ˈɡädəs/
noun
a female deity.
a woman who is adored, especially for her beauty.
.
.
Here’s one of my favorite photos from the trail. Why? Because I felt like the strongest and most beautiful goddess. This photo is right after I crossed into Oregon. I had just peed my pants and the only reasonable option in my pack was to put on my underwear (yes, I didn’t hike wearing my underwear. Just had it for town days) I hadn’t showered in over a week. My body; this emotional, resilient vessel that creates me, had just walked the entire state of California and I felt nothing less than a brilliant and vigorous goddess. This is what a goddess looks like to me. Its knowing how many tears it took to get there. It’s knowing that this was hard-earned dirt that i am proudly showcasing. It’s recognizing less is more by carrying my life on my back for nearly 6 months. This is beautiful. This is pure. This is raw beauty. It’s the girl standing in a parking lot, hoping for a real meal because she’s been eating ramen and snickers for the days leading up. Who chose the harder path and cried & yelled in frustration & pain along the way. This girl: the one who obviously smells bad just by the looks of this picture. And this smile, its real. It’s genuine. This is me, wholeheartedly. Being able to laugh at myself because I peed myself. This is the goddess I want to remind myself of when days are challenging. When I look in the mirror and can’t find acceptance. Because this girl, is beautiful.. Her scars, her emotions, her journey. .
.
Ignite your inner goddess. She’s there. Find what your goddess looks like. We don’t need to perfectly curate our feeds or our bodies to appear someway. We need to honor our bodies and thank them for being here for us everyday. We need to continue to have reverence in our everyday. Find peace with our entire being. And be kind. Kind to ourselves, but also to others and our environment. .
.
Thank you, PCT, for helping me find the goddess that I am. And for allowing me to continue to evolve as a radiant, free-spirit. So much gratitude."

Have fun out there!

  • I can’t remember if it was after or right before this picture was taken that I found myself crying alone in this vast alpine wilderness known as the High Sierra, but yeah...
.
It wasn’t like I hadn’t already seen 1000 beautiful sunrises on the PCT before, or that I wasn’t already all too familiar with the deep feelings of loneliness the trail instills. It was just that this one was special - EXTRA beautiful, EXTRA lonely. The way the sun softened and melted everything it touched, the fact that it was July 4th (🎉), the memory of my dad and I standing at this exact pass while hiking the John Muir Trail just the year prior, and lastly, also the coincidental fact that July 4th was his birthday.
.
I wanted to so badly call him and wish him a happy birthday but I was miles away from good connection. I wanted to tell him about all the rivers I had crossed and mountains I climbed and about all the snow! For a moment I wanted him (and his 80L pack lol) to just be there taking it all in with me and loving every step of it. I also wanted to thank him. Because if there is one person who has taught me about perseverance and perspective, which is something I often have to dig deep for while hiking, it’s mi Papa... ❤️ (swipe right to see him and I on the JMT in 2016)
.
And so I just stood there, on top of all the suncups looking like I just got a really bad spray tan, smiling, crying, watching, and feeling a whole bunch of deep stuff. .

  • In the spirit on National California Day, this sunrise always screamed California to me. Can you guess where in California this was taken?

  • Simple and yet quite pleasing

JMT DAY 22 - SUNSET AT SAWMILL PASS JUNCTION
.
Sunset at Sawmill Pass Junction
.
Our upbeat march became a strenuous climb in the rough, rocky terrain toward Pinchot Pass (12,090 ft). We were constantly huffing and puffing while gaining an elevation of over 2,000 feet. All I could think of at that moment was that I hated my heavy backpack.
.
While going up the switchbacks, we ran across a mule pack coming down the pass. I was quite impressed by the horses and mules going up and down this treacherous terrain, filled with loose rocks.
.
Once we reached the pass, we took a well deserved break. The views from up there were quite amazing. Probably more overwhelmed by the accomplishment though.
.
We came down the pass safely and hiked through quite a barren part of the trail, still above the treeline, along the huge mountain crest to our left, whose focal point was Mt. Perkins.
.
We continued losing elevation all the way to Sawmill Pass Junction, where we ended up camping. It was an equally challenging trudge while losing over 2,300 ft in elevation as the climb earlier. And I was really happy to end our day here. Because the view of Acrodectes Peak (13,182 ft) and its crest cast with a gorgeous orange and red glow was simple and yet quite pleasing.

  • Note to self: don’t try to run around on the hills in the Swiss countryside. Right after the shutter clicked, I slid into the biggest cow patty and stopped dead in my tracks 😂 I was the only one up there so all I could do was laugh at myself... also massive tufts of grass are excellent for boot cleaning.
I just made a blog post to challenge myself to hike at least once a week before I hit the #johnmuirtrail this summer! There I’ll be tracking my progress with activity tracker screenshots or snapshots of the trail that day. I hope this inspires you to take the challenge as well, click the link in profile to check it out #onehikeaweek2019
