いやーなんだか久しぶりなんですよね、ザ生酛!ってお酒。このクセのある感じがたまらないんですよね。

香りは炊きたてのお米のような香りに藁を燻したような香り少々、奥の方に乳のニュアンス。新政とか生酛ですよーと言われて「えっ!どこどこ?」香りを取りに行ってもわかりませんが、こちらは明確に乳のニュアンスがわかりますね。

そして口に含むと厚みのある口当たり、とろみがあって口の中で転がしたくなる。特Aの山田錦らしくとても滑らかな丸みを感じる甘みと雑味によるコク。

後半は酸味もあいまって複雑さを演出。旨味の余韻が長いのもたまらない

龍力はお米にこだわりを待ったお蔵さんで兵庫県特Aエリアの山田錦をふんだんに使ったお酒ばかり。そしてただ山田錦を使うだけではなく、農家さんと土壌の研究なんかもされている中々珍しいお蔵さん。そんな山田錦に栽培に多大なる貢献をされた前会長が昨年亡くなられました。合唱しながら飲むのであります。

Ma précédente publication était consacré au 12 ans de la gamme et comme promis nous poursuivons notre "Glenfi verticale" avec cette fois-ci notre bien aimé j'ai nommé le Glenfiddich 15 ans Solera.

Notre G-15 a vieilli dans 3 types de fûts différents: Xérès, bourbon et chêne neuf. Il est ensuite assemblé dans un foudre artisanal de Solera fabriqué à la main avec du pin d'Oregon. Il s'agit d'une méthode de vieillissement utilisé initialement dans le monde du vin, principalement en Espagne, ainsi que dans l'univers du Cognac mais également du Rhum. •
Elle consiste à un empilement de barrique sur plusieurs niveaux: le premier niveau est nommé "Solera", les niveaux suivants "première criadera", "seconde criadera" etc. Dans le vin on trouve généralement 3 à 5 niveaux de fûts empilés, les vieux jus en bas au plus jeune en haut ! L' ajout de whisky se fait uniquement par le plus haut niveau de fût et la mise à niveau des rangés intermédiaires, toutes remplies à moitiés, se fait par soutirage de la rangée qui lui précède. Les espagnols disent que le vin vieux éduque le jeune et c'est ce même principe qui apporte à notre Glenfiddich 15 ans cette richesse arômatique très caractéristique 🥂 et on aime !

  • Ah, Convalmore. Right up there on the Port Ellen and Brora level of pricing in the @Diageo Special Releases. Slightly above my pay-grade but I was able to pick up this 1969 miniature for a good price at auction. Not quite sure when it was bottled, I’ve seen this label assigned to 1991, 1992 and 1994, so between 22 and 25 years old.

Convalmore was owned by UMD (now Diageo) and closed in 1985 before being sold to @williamgrantuk in 1990. It sits astride of @thebalvenie and is used now as warehouse space for both Balvenie and @glenfiddichwhisky, with all the stills and equipment having been removed.

As part of the sale, Grants agreed not to use the name Convalmore, nor to distill any whisky there. This allows Diageo to continue to sell their old stocks using the name. However, that didn’t stop the strange case of Maslyukov -v- Diageo from coming before the courts in 2007.

Mr Maslyukov, Founder of Hispaniola Brands, filed trademark applications for Dallas Dhu, Convalmore and Pittyvaich in order to name his own whiskies after these former distilleries (the source of those whiskies wasn’t revealed). He claimed that Diageo was fearful of him, hence their (justifiable) opposition and dragged up the 2003 @cardhuwhisky Pure Malt saga for good measure. To further add to the surreal drama, witness evidence was heard from Ian Urquhart at @gordonandmacphail about how much Dallas Dhu G&M would sell annually.

Anyway, unsurprisingly Diageo won the case, although both parties took issue with the judgment and appealed. The High Court understandably sided with Diageo and the sanctity of Convalmore was preserved. .

Nose - beeswax, pear drops and a shiny mahogany table. Freshly cracked black pepper, baked orange peel.

Palate - gooseberry and apples along with a pleasant waxy mouthfeel that belies it’s low ABV. A drop of water highlights some bitter blackcurrants and green wood, which tails into an earthy heat.
