I should be grading the sweater that I stayed up way too late finishing last night- but my brain would rather be knitting!
So how about a fun little trick share instead?!?
I love marling yarn (holding two or more strands of yarn together as one), but sometimes it can be tricky to know what yarn weight I have achieved with my multi-strand play! So lately I’ve been wrapping my planned yarns held together around this handy “wraps per inch” ruler to gauge my approximate marled yarn weight and it’s been so helpful!
For instance, this Rustic Heather Sport and Marsh Mohair Lace from @lichenandlace comes out to right around a DK weight! Now I have a better idea of what needle size I want to start swatching with!
Just imagine- even if you don’t have the correct yarn weight called for in a pattern, you might be able to just stash dive and create what you need right from your collection by marling them!
This particular gauge ruler is made by @katrinkles_knitting_jewelry and I purchased it at @fancytigercrafts 🥰 #iguessillgobacktogradingnow
This is most of my physical library, although my ebook library is more impressive. However, I can't shake the want to hold a real book. Guest appearances by @lalylaland@mairlynd@laine_magazine (yes I got the newest issue...yay!) @twinkiechan@knightkraft@norahgn@andrearangelknits and many more whose insta handles I don't know... As you can see, I also keep jars of my scrap yarn from caking skeins, as well as all the labels of Hanks I've used (just in case I need to reference back) which I clean out every couple of months.
The scrap yarn will be carded back to wool (it's wool only) which will be repurposed as #amigurimi stuffing (a trick I learned from an Arne & Carlos video)

WIP Wednesday. Working on a Sockhead hat. Yarn is one of my own. It was my Easter 2016 colorway, called Some Bunnies Just Wanna Have Fun. I dyed a skein of MCN 2-ply a while back and had it in my stash. I wasn’t sure if it would be ok as a beanie with it being as variegated as it is, but I’m LOVING how it’s knitting up! To bad I hate ribbing and I have another few files of it left to knit. Also, I was going to dye some self striping today, but something went terribly wrong, and I ended up with the most horrific tangled mess. Thankfully, between my mom and I, we were able to unravel the rats nest and it’s back on the warping board. I’ll try again tomorrow! #wipwednesday#knittersofinstagram#knitting#knitstagram#sockheadhat#tangledyarn#knitterspridezing#happychappyshoppe
My dear friends Andrea and Chris are getting married next month! 💞💞💞 I’m so happy for them. Here they are snuggling in the Rambling Rows Afghan I knit for them out of Noro Silk Garden as a wedding gift. 💝💝💝💝 They’ve shares their home with me and helped me when I needed it—true friends. 😘😘😘 #ramblingrows#knittersofinstagram#loveisanicething#norosilkgarden
The material reminds me of my sleeping bag, which means no yarns stick or snag against the fabric. I even use the straps and clips to hang it on the back of plane seats when I travel, so these bags work as great travel bags / fabric "yarn bowl"s
The largest to the right even had backpack/draw string shoulder straps. (in red)
Off the loom! This was my first weaving project in about 2 years. The first time I warped this loom it felt laborious. After a few more projects the process felt simpler, and after a long break I was in love with every step. A testament to familiarity of process, and deep transformations in how I feel about ‘making’. From the mediation of warping, to the rhythm of shuttling yarn back and forth, this wrap has given me so much. In turn it is infused with great joy.
I’d like to thank @emily_jeffords for her soulful podcast #doitfortheprocess . I listened as I wove...so, maybe there’s more than joy woven into this wrap...wisdom, inspiration, gratitude for bravery. Thank you💕
