  • The past couple of months, I haven't had that many opportunities to go on photo walks around Rome. Sometimes I just get too busy to pick up the camera when the light is nice and head out to wander around, sometimes the weather isn't great (torrential downpours are photogenic but uncomfortable), and sometimes I'm just flat-out too lazy. That's a valid excuse too, right? But with the days starting to get a bit longer again and the weather having been so nice lately, I'm starting to get back into the habit. And every time I dedicate an hour or two to wandering my way through the city with my camera, I remember exactly why this is something I love doing so much.

  • This is one of the things I love about Rome: That you can be walking down a little side street, the unimportant kind of street that doesn't attract the tourists and doesn't really do all that much to help the Romans get from point A to point B in an efficient way, and you can still stumble across scenes that look so charming it's almost like they've been carefully planned out that way. ⠀
(Of course, what you don't see in this picture is the car that nearly mowed me down as it swung around the corner and swerved to avoid another very poorly parked car... but oh well. That's also Rome.)

  • Did you know that in the Colosseum they used to have naval battles? Yes, you read well: naval battles. There was a mechanism that would flood the Colosseum and they had flat bottomed ships. The battles were based in historical events and the slaves would fight against eachother. Crazy, huh? Thanks @ericcinho for telling me that curiosity! Loco, no? Gracias @ericcinho por contarme esa curiosidad!

  • Marble detail of Il Ratto de Proserpina by Bernini. If I had to pick a favorite sculptor, he’d be it.

  • “Designed by Roman architect Pietro Lombardi, the fountain features symbols associated with artists, with whom Via Margutta has been linked since the 17th century.

The triangular base of the fountain supports two artists' easels on which rest two grotesque masks, one sad, the other happy – symbolising the alternating moods of artists – and crowned with a bucket of paint-brushes.

There is still a strong artistic presence on Via Margutta, which hosts the annual 100 painters event, while the fountain's designer Lombardi, who died in 1984, is better remembered for the Fontana delle Anfore in Piazza Testaccio.”.- #visitrome
