  • These days, it’s common to have a single mother: 40% of American kids are born to unmarried women. In Zoe Greenberg’s case, she was one of five children raised by a single mother by choice, who was raised by a single grandmother— and she is here to let you know: “You don’t have to worry if the girl across the table has a single mother. There’s no apocalypse coming for you.” Read her essay, “A Guide to Dating Women Raised in a Matriarchy,” at the link in bio. | 📸: Clay Enos/ @wbpictures

  • 🐱’s out of the 💼 I’m becoming an armadillo this week! (Much like the holiday armadillo from Friends, but with less of a Ross vibe 🙈) I’m over the moon 🌙 to be joining the team @dmaa_school teaching grade 4, starting this Thursday. I am truly grateful to work for a district with many opportunities to develop as a new teacher, and I can’t wait to grow under the leadership of the amazing team at DMAA.
Some facts about my new school:
1. DMAA is named after a U of A #femalescientist who is very involved with the school
2. The school is a real #matriarchy - not only is it named after an intelligent local woman- it’s ran by a female admin duo 👏🏽 3. It’s 3 years old, meaning I’m going from one of the oldest schools in the district to one of the newest (both buildings are beautiful!!)
4. Last year they ran a production of “Seussical” (Dr. Seuss musical) so the room I get to teach in is THE FREAKING LORAX- seriously there are truffula trees all over
5. The school has an inclusive interactions (Autism) program so there will hopefully be opportunities for me to work with kids who have ASD 🧩
I get to meet my kids on Tuesday and hit the ground running on Thursday. Here’s to this new adventure with 25 new kids to keep me busy and keep my heart full 💕

  • This weekend in de Volkskrant! For the whole story see link in bio.
Foto's: @marlenawaldthausen
