when you roll out of bed to run an errand wearing zero makeup and run into one of your favorite lyricists//musicians. I just made friends with #mattberninger 🙋 we talked about #california , writing, music, art, and our writing habits. grateful that I had the opportunity to talk with him. I invited him to be a guest on Season 4 of my podcast, The Art of Humanity. stay tuned! #highonlife with @thenational#thenational
How to get a pic with one of your favorite musicians! ❤️
Step 1: Roll out of bed and put on the band's t-shirt you are going to see tonight, the concert for which you extended your Cali trip 4 days for -- anniversary celebration! (4 years tomorrow @justingrunewald1!) 💥
Step 2: Walk about 200 feet from the airbnb you're staying at to grab some coffee & toast. ☕️
Step 3: Internally freak out when the lead singer of the band you're going to see tonight (Hi Matt, @thenational!) @hollywoodbowl sits down almost right next to you. 😱🎉
Step 4: Try to be cool, but ask for a pic anyway because SERIOUSLY THIS IS CRAZY! Fail at looking cool in the pic because that's just how this goes. 🤣📸
Step 5: Find out the lead singer is as kind and gracious as you hoped but get out of there AS FAST AS YOU CAN! (So he can enjoy his meal & time with his daughter, all the good pre-show vibes.) 😊
“The system only dreams in total darkness / Why are you hiding from me? / We’re in a different kind of thing now / All night you’re talking to God.” Alternative rock collective The National, led by Matt Berninger, have plenty to say on “The System Only Dreams in Total Darkness,” a gem from their 2017 Grammy-winning album, Sleep Well Beast. The aforementioned excerpt seems to reference a suspect, sketchy social and political climate, while also taking a shot at those who merely cling to God and religion as opposed to logic and reason. Notably, “The System Only Dreams in Total Darkness” and Sleep Well Beast arrives after arguably the biggest political upset in American history – the election of Donald Trump. Berninger and company seem to be looking to cope and atone for various problems, sketchy ideologies, and a barrage of issues facing America. Also, there’s the implication that the more ‘passive,’ faith-based crowd and extreme right-wingers should consider embracing more rational thought. Check out the full write up (link in bio).

The sky's getting whiter
I can't find a liner anywhere I'm going crazy
I'm not crazy
“Hey baby, where were you back there
When I needed your help?
I thought that if I stuck my neck out
I'd get you out of your shell
My faith is sick and my skin is thin as ever
I need you alone
Goodbyes always take us half an hour
Can't we just go home?
Happy birthday to the man who managed to make a lot of beautiful music that saved my days a lot of times, more than I could say. Words would never be enough to thank you and they certainly would never be enough to describe how much I admire you. Have a great great great day (you deserve it) ❤🎂
And hope we'll see again soon in Argentina.
