My first flat lay!! But more importantly, look at this dress!! I'm so in love with it!! 😍
I finished it this yesterday afternoon while watching the sewing bee on catch-up! I was a day late for the #gbsbsewalong but better late than never!! The pattern is @byhandlondon#annadress with a gathered skirt. And the fabric is English garden by @riflepaperco from @elephantinmyhandbag
Hello! Just stopping by to give the details on yesterdays Valentine’s post. Here’s the same dress and blouse now pictured with a pretty cool hat. I used #newlook6509 as the base of the dress and then added the ruffle and bow detail! The blouse was a lucky thrift 💁🏼♀️ last pic shows the blind hem that my new machine can do (and that I’m very excited about). It makes me want to redo any hem I’ve ever sewn before 😁 @joann_stores
Green machine 😍 I did knife pleats on the skirt, and overlapping them slightly at the top created a lovely gathered a-line effect. Also, after years of avoiding sleeves, I’m happy to say these are quite comfortable to dance in. Winter sewing ftw! 💚 #lilaandjune#designexperiments#byebyebirdie

this is the P pattern from the @atelier_to_nani_iro pattern book, directly inspired by @stitch.sew.snip ’s version! i left off the sleeves as well because this is queensland and i don’t need long sleeves, like, ever. this was my first time using a japanese pattern / pattern book and tracing it off the layered sheet was majorly confusing but the actual sewing diagrams were v easy to understand!
i cut the M/L size but honestly this shirt is MEGA HUGE. i’m a box shirt aficionado and this is definitely my widest square of all lol. i got this fabric locally as a remnant but i think it might be a lawn with enshuku / salt shrinking technique?
REFASHIONED 1980’s COTTON BLOUSE
Today is the second last day of the Lunar New Year and I thought I’d share the other #refashioned project that I did for the new year before it’s all over.
This soft, cotton embroidered blouse was in my wardrobe for years! I love the embroidered details but I just couldn’t bring myself to embrace the 80’s “power” sleeves. So, I cut them off and seamed the raw edges with bias tape.
I also took the sides in and shortened the blouse. And there you go, a “new” blouse that’s more like my kinda style!
How does everyone feel about cutting and #refashioning#vintage pieces? (Aye, I’m calling this 1980’s piece vintage)
Just that we’re clear, I’m okay with refashioning vintage pieces as long as the outcome is something that brings more perceived joy and value to the owner. I’m talking about dyeing stained dresses from the 1950’s and shortening maxi dresses from 1970’s! Have you done some refashioning with vintage pieces before? Share your project with me in the comments below! ✨

paper theory kabuki tee in stripey linen. i really enjoyed making this, it was nice and quick and the construction is satisfying!
thankfully the inside point isn’t exactly nip-level but i think i’d like to attempt to reduce the width (?) of the sleeve piece / raise the inside corner next time i make it. i did shorten the sleeve length as much as possible but i still find them a bit overwhelming. alternatively if i could just grow like 5 inches i would stop having short person sewing problems 🤷♀️

Dreamy #actondress made by @gyasti 💙💙💙 The wrap version of the Acton dress is my all time favourite party dress and this is why 😍
2 #theactondress in 1. The green one is made out of cotton/spx blend fabric & the blue one is made out of some heavyweight satin. The satin one is definitely more formal looking, which is why i love this pattern so much. It is so versatile! And the fit!!! I cut a size 2 on the bodice, grading to size 0 on the skirt. Very flattering for the upside down triangle body type.⠀
This #blaireshirt is another recent FO, which I finished in early January, right before my trip to London. The pattern is from @stylearc and it’s made with a linen/cotton chambray from @blackbirdfabrics. This is my first button-up shirt and, I have to say, now that the collar and buttonhole processes have been demystified, I can’t wait to make a billion more of these! I see many, many Blaires and Archers and Kalles in my future, and maaaaybe even a men’s button-up shirt or two for my partner. Obviously I’m wearing this little cutie layered under cardigans and blazers for the time being, but I can’t wait to wear it solo in all its glory whenever summer finally decides to come to Chicago!

@bisforbryanna made the sweetest #lucidadress 😍 They sewed it up in a stretch velvet and I love how it turned out! The Lucida is a quick project and perfect for dipping your toes into sewing with knits. With warm weather on the horizon I am excited to sew myself a couple new Lucidas!

Whether on land or on water, we're right there with you!
Sometimes you find fabric and know it was meant to be. This fabric... The pattern, the colours, the feel, the weightlessness… This delicate, intricate floral design takes me to a dreamy otherworld… I know it's only fabric.
My primary focus on this #newlook6557 dress was to make a discrete crossover bodice that I could wear with a normal bra. For me, strapless bras are either so tight they cut off circulation or slip and slide into uselessness.
As someone who is blessed (or cursed) in the bust department, I had never been able to wear such a dress whilst maintaining a shred of modesty. I built the bodice and straps around the bra, to ensure adequate coverage.
The outcome: summer dress perfection. I managed something light and airy, feminine and delicate. I love this dress. #sewersgonnasew#makersgonnamake#isewmyownclothes#fabriclust#handmadewardrobe#isew#imakemyclothes#measurefabric#memade

This geometric print fabric sat in my stash since the early Fall. I had plans to use it to make a top with ruffles (😱 what was I thinking), but after I traced the pattern I lost all desire.
Recently, I decided I would use the fabric for a long-sleeve, flowy dress because I finally wanted to try the “long dresses with sneakers” look. But once again, I second-guessed my decision. Although I admired these two silhouettes on others, I knew I would be uncomfortable in them. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Where I found comfort = Separates. I wanted to create that “dress with sneakers” look using separates and this fabric would work to do so. Honestly I wasn’t sure at first about the matching pants—although I knew the shirt was a win—because it nudges the boundaries of my aesthetic. But after finishing and trying them on, I’m totally here for this look!
