  • The best shots always seem to come when it’s the hardest to take out a camera. We were 19 hours into our summit push for Fitz, plus a big approaching day, groveling up some wider chimney pitches with packs on, and tools scrapping against ever little edge. The sunset was so beautiful, but I was mid pitch, and really didn’t want to hang out there to take a photo. I also couldn’t communicate with my partner, so I didn’t want to take on the rope. Who knows how much stretch and slack was in the system... So, I found a good stemming stance, and reluctantly l, tiredly, went through the process of taking out the camera. I only stopped once, and only took 2 photos. This was one of them. Looking back now it’s one of my favorites from the climb. But at the time all I could think about was finding a bivy ledge and making hot food/water!

  • Getting high above the city for an impromptu self-arresting clinic!
I love having a different relationship with this place than what media and recent history have presented us. It’s so good to be back here with the girls, hala making the Korma, and all the craziness of Kabul that used to scare me but now just feels familiar 😊.
