I HIKED MT WHITNEY ❗️The highest point in the continental US! 🌄
22 miles | 6,100 ft elevation gain | 14,496 ft high | time: 15 hours .
This is the most intense day hike I’ve ever done. I began the hike at 3am and had to cross several rivers with just a headlamp (super scary). At around 12,000ft, my headaches began due to altitude sickness (advil didn’t help). I had to endure another 5 miles to the summit, where each step was accompanied with throbbing head pain. It was such a relief to reach the summit and the view was well worth it. However, there was still 11 miles back to the car. I was a walking zombie and it took every last bit of willpower (and a strong craving for Chinese food) to get me back to the car. I thought I was ready for Whitney, but it surely surprised me and took all my mental and physical strength. I’m so proud to finally check Mt Whitney off my bucket list ✔️

The pit of my stomach sinks heavily with yet another comfort zone exit. Trying to wrap my head around one more new start. But it all seems overbearing and overwhelming until you stop, breathe, and view the big picture: look how far you’ve come, (despite all of the discomfort). .
I have so many words to describe this unreal experience but I’m out of breath after hiking 19 hours. So l’ll just say we trekked 22 miles, gained 6,000 feet elevation and reached the summit of the tallest mountain in the contiguous US!!! It was THE most grueling adventure I’ve ever experienced, both mentally and physically. But with positive people by your side and a determined mindset, ain’t no mountain high enough!!
Who’s ready for a weekend of adventures?
Our GJ crew is spread from coast to coast and has a bit of everything planned - from ice climbing in the north to paddling in the south. What about you, what do you have planned?
And way to go @reptarhikes for capturing this awesome moment hiking up Kearsarge Pass. And congrats to on the mountaintop engagement @wooingthewild and @meowtaincatt!
Now that the Havasupai permit craze has ended its time to think about #mtwhitney permits. For all of you who are crazy enough to day hike Mount Whitney permits will become available on Recreation.gov in a few weeks. Normally permits open on February 1st, but things were delayed due to the government shutdown. So set an alert and cross your fingers!
In the distance stands the tallest peak in the lower 48 lower states Mt. Whitney. I’ve begun training for this summit. 22 miles in 8 - 12 hours with an elevation gain of 14,505ft. It ain’t going be easy, but it’ll be worth it.
Meet me at the summit this Spring! 🏔
