  • The 'corner suite' at Pinnacles Hut.

We've been wanting to do the Pinnacles hike for some time now and over the weekend we finally did. The walk to the hut was tougher than we expected and the heat (must have been 30+ Celcius) didn't help either.

We were the first overnight visitors to arrive which meant we had our pick of spots in the two bunk rooms. Debs was kind enough to let me have this spot so I could watch the stars, and there were stars aplenty. Watch for more photos from our trip over the next few days.

  • The road to Milford Sound..🏔☁️
.
.
In 2012, 475,000 people visited Milford Sound. In 2019, that number will be over 1 million. One road in, and one road out, it can definitely get a bit chaotic at peak times. New Zealand does such a wonderful job of maintaining it’s tourist destinations, and managing the massive crowds, Milford Sound in particular! It’s an incredible experience no matter when or how you get there, regardless of the weather or the crowd.. just have to be super careful with all the terrible drivers on the road 😉#purenewzealand

  • The landscape in New Zealand changes from epic mountain ranges, to forest and bush, then to open fields like this one all within a couple hours drive! 😍 When we saw this spot, we just had to stop and snap a photo. It was just too beautiful! Who would you want to frolic through this field with?? Tag them!

  • 🌿✨The silver fern or ponga is a New Zealand icon. Its name comes from the silver-white color on the underside of the fronds. Native to NZ, you find these ferns bordering nearly all treks. It’s said the indigenous Māori used the fronds to help guide them in the dark, using the silver underbelly to reflect the moonlight to illuminate a path.
-
Today the silver fern is a symbol of Kiwi pride, emblazoned on nearly everything indicative of NZ — including their much-loved rugby team!
-
My favorite story is about a recent attempt to replace the current New Zealand flag with an alternative flag that showcases the fern. It’s always bothered me that NZ’s flag looks like a bad Australian flag replica. Although it’s good to honor one’s heritage... I don’t know, there’s just a unique spirit here that deserves more autonomy. I feel like a new flag that is more Kiwi and less Aussie could signal that break. Although the alternative fern flag was voted down, many Kiwis still fly it on their front porches today. I can’t help but give a mental high-five to these rebels every time I pass one.🖐 #silverlining

  • Traveling to New Zealand has been a massive one to cross off my bucket list!⠀
.⠀
Lakes, mountains, incredible views, windy roads and all of the adventure activities. I went zip lining and did a 21 meter (63 ft) jump! ⠀

They have ALL of the adventures here - what would you most like to do?!

  • Off to a good start in beautiful New Zealand! This is the devil’s punch bowl in Arthur’s pass. The entire pass is stunning and a must see.
