  • Meet the Resano family. —
Last week, 13-year-old Candy (@candelara_resano - far left) and 14-year-old Valentina (far right) both dropped into her their first big bombs at Waimea Bay. Their father, Manny Resano, can probably take some credit for their bravery. The 36-year-old from Nicaragua is one of the most respected big-wave chargers around. —
Manny is not a pro surfer. He doesn’t even have an Instagram account. His day job is teaching kids how to sail. It’s transferable work, so it allows he and his entire family (including wife Berri and 11-year-old Maxima) to move around and chase waves. —
Manny moved to Nicaragua from Argentina about 18 years ago to be near his favorite left slab. “The girls were raised in Nicaragua, but they spend a lot of time now competing in California when I get work there. We stay with friends in Encinitas, but I get do lot of work in Marina Del Ray.” —
Manny’s first love these days is Mavericks. In fact, Mavs icon Jeff Clark (@maverickssurfcompany) is the closest thing he has to a sponsor. Clark supplies him boards and a lot of advice on how to approach the famed waves…and it’s working. Manny has been impressing the hell out of locals. “I chase every swell there I can,” he explains. “Jeff has really got me into going left out there. All the years he was out there alone, that’s what he was focused on, and I love it being a goofyfooter!” —

  • Sometimes what we are looking for is not going to be found by doing more, by experiencing more, or by being more inspired to keep doing what we’re doing. Its going to be found by going deeper, by being more honest, and by being more transformed at the depths of our being. #imaginehi

  • Great 1/2-day yesterday volunteering in Kamilonui Valley. This valley is the last undeveloped valley in East O’ahu and is zoned AG2 and outside the unban growth boundary. It has such HUGE potential but needs master planning and a conservation approach to caring for its natural watershed qualities. There is only one road in and out and it is nestled behind a residential neighborhood. PLUS it drains into the Hawaii Kai Marina and eventually Maunalua Bay. Our friend Mahi says: “ʻĀINA > us - Land is Chief, we are its Servants. Create 'APU-tunity!”
