  • Franz Kafka, the son of Julie Löwy and Hermann Kafka, a merchant, was born into a prosperous middle-class Jewish family. After two brothers died in infancy, he became the eldest child and remained, for the rest of his life, conscious of his role as elder brother; Ottla, the youngest of his three sisters, became the family member closest to him. Kafka strongly identified with his maternal ancestors because of their spirituality, intellectual distinction, piety, rabbinical learning, melancholydisposition, and delicate physical and mental constitution. He was not, however, particularly close to his mother. Subservient to her overwhelming ill-tempered husband and his exacting business, she shared with her spouse a lack of comprehension of their son’s unprofitable and, they feared, unhealthy dedication to the literary “recording of [his]…dreamlike inner life.”

  • 💬 What is your favourite book on Stoicism? ⠀
⠀
It’s a philosophy that I have read and talked about much on this channel. As an alternative way of thinking to traditional western ideology, it forms a pattern of behaviour where emotional plays a secondary role to logic. I would say that @ryanholiday books are a great place to start to learn the fundamental principles of Stoic philosophy and how you can implement it into your life. ⠀
⠀
From there you can develop your understanding and move onto the original texts such as Seneca’s and Marcus Aurelius’s works. I would caveat this by saying both of these are intense and thought provoking reads that require the readers full attention but give you a better understanding of the roots of Stoicism.⠀
⠀
Comment below I would love here your thoughts on these book 👍📚⬇️⠀
⠀
A little channel update. I haven’t been posting regular since the beginning of this year. Working and studying full time can get quite busy to handle. Looking to record some more videos soon as I have about 5 books that I have finished but yet to film. Keep an eye out for these in the next couple of weeks. ⠀
⠀
Take care and happy reading. ⠀
