  • Working on your handstand press butbitsbjust not clicking? ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Try working on these progressions, starting with the first press shown (using a block, wheel and wall— you can also use straps. The straps (placed around the upper arms, shoulder distance apart) help tremendouslythey keep the elbows from flaring out and allowing you to hold your weight easier) and working all the way towards the ending press! ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
✨Tips ⁣⁣⁣
- Stretch out your forward fold and center splits before practicing.⁣⁣⁣
-Why? Because this will help get your hips closer to stacking over your shoulders⁣⁣⁣
-The more your hips are stacked over your shoulder, the easier the press is.⁣⁣⁣

  • When you need to get the kids attention, this is certainly one way to do it ☺️🙋🏻‍♀️🥳🤪... ⠀
I had the opportunity to teach the kids (over 250 of them!) at my daughter’s school about yoga for their health and wellness day. I had the challenge of trying to explain in a semi-concise way about how Yoga is different and deeper than just stretching. About how Yoga gives us the opportunity to use our physical body to organize and sort through the things that are going on inside our head and our hearts. About how we all have a little voice inside of us that tells us maybe we aren’t good enough, or strong enough or smart enough to do something or to face a certain challenge. But what yoga teaches us or at least has taught me, is that I am strong enough. I can focus and I can breathe through it and we are all able to do so much more than we often give ourselves credit for. ⠀
So I guess in the end when they all thanked me, I should really be the one thanking them back for the reminder of why I love and cherish this practice so very much; and how much it means to me to be able to pass that potential onto the next generation of future yogis. ⠀
Sound on 🔉 for the full effect! 🧘🏻‍♀️🧘🏻‍♂️

  • 5 press-ups are pretty challenging considering I can press 50kg DBs & 120kg+ bench for reps.
▪️
So this might be a little more challenging than a typical press-up being on parallettes & with a forward lean but still these felt much tougher than expected.
▪️
Ignore what the hell my feet are doing....... I was trying to keep weight as forwards as possible.
▪️
So why have the parallettes came out? I was asked by a client what my favourite type of training has been and it got me thinking 🤔 BODYWEIGHT.
▪️
Before the bodybuilding & powerlifting comps my time was spent on parallettes, rings & exploring movement patterns.
▪️
It was just some basic moves on the p-bars today but I really enjoyed the session.

  • With a regular press up you lift about 70% of your body weight. With the decline press up you lift even more (especially if you put some weights on your back) 💪🏻 -
Press ups work your chest, triceps, shoulders & back muscles. While the decline hits your upper chest & front delts (shoulders) more. It’s literally something anybody could build up to just doing them at home🏡 and with dedication you could go from scratch to performing declines in 6 months. It would also have a big positive impact on both your body strength & how you look..... No equipment required 🏋️‍♀️.

  • I owe a lot of my progress to the muscle shock training technique. It means getting every last bit out of your workout and forcing the muscle fibres past their limit to shock growth. This can be done in several ways, drop setting, force reps or just burn out sets.
After a heavy weight session, using a finishing body weight set of high volume could be the perfect way to really tear the muscle fibres and fatigue the body. Press ups at at hight by using some planks or whatever you have laying around, and just doing a full to failure set but making sure you hit depth, is one of my personal favourites to finish of a chest workout. #pressup #chest #burnout #volume #finisher #tricep #shoulder #push #fitness #bodybuilding #instafit #instafitnesss #failure #streching

  • I’ve decided I’m just going to go everywhere to try to shake off all this bullshit I’ve been feeling the last few months. For the last two, I haven’t made any plans because it felt like my life was frozen in time and space. It’s not that it wasn’t necessary, but now I’m really just trying to heal and move on. What happened, happened. And it’s great to watch your life keep going—keep moving. It always does. I just booked a flight with @hoopalooper to New Orleans next weekend, if you know a random studio that would want to do a pop-up class/workshop with me, let me know!! I’ve never been to Mardi Gras and some of my favorite people are there!! @kittyyy512 I’m coming for yoooou.
.
.
**Also I felt majorly fatigued yesterday, can you tell??
.
Repping my @trouble_north_co hat, I’ve pretty much lived in their shit allll winter. Check them out!!

  • WEDNESDAY WORKOUT TIPS: The Push Up
-
So simple, and yet an amazing exercise with SO many variations and progressions. I’d say probably one of the best and most effective bodyweight exercises. If you’re doing a strength training programme and doing no push ups whatsoever... well, you’re missing out 🤪
-
FORM TIPS:
• Hands should be shoulder width apart (for basic push ups), wrists under shoulders
• Spread fingers out to reduce pressure on wrists
• Elbows should stay tucked in pointing behind you, not pointed out to the sides
• SQUEEZE THE GLUTES
• Core should be engaged and tight, spine neutral
• Aim to get chest down to the floor, keeping strong form
• I find it helps to ‘grip’ the floor a bit, and imagine I’m pushing the ground away from me
~
PROGRESSIONS:
• Start on the knees
• When you can do a few sets of knee push ups, progress to a full push up
• When you can easily do sets of 10 push ups, you can try:...
- Using a Bosu ball for instability to get your core working too (pictured. Concentration face 😳)
- Close and wide grip variations
- Fingertip push ups
- One leg push ups (engages core more)
- Diamond push ups
- Archer push ups
- Typewriter push ups
- Single arm push ups
- Handstand push ups 😉
I promise you that you can get super strong doing push ups, which makes it great for those who prefer working out not in a gym 😁 Try doing 20 a day and see how far it can take you! 💪🔥

  • PUSH UPS SAVE LIVES
.
Forgive the simplistic headline but this paper seems to suggest exactly this.
.
We all know that exercise reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease but people often define and quantify “exercise” in different ways. I found it interesting that a study that measured something as simple as how many push ups you could do confirmed this simple correlation.
.
“Exercise prescriptions” have become more common and also more accepted among patients and studies such as this help us to communicate simple messages to patients of all ages.
.
Personally I feel passionately that children of all ages should be taught the benefits of strength training (not just team sports!) so that as they grow they make positive choices to incorporate this type of exercise into their daily lives. I’ll be making sure my boys are doing their push ups today!

So so proud of my girls @yaelbern @shellygarzon @gvalderrama.
