His name is Elijah Nichols - He had only been at Radford University (Virginia) for one month. He took a break from studying and attended a frat party on September 28th, 2017 (1300 block of Lawrence Steet). He was asked to leave and was *allegedly* punched and grabbed by the neck and put into a head lock. He pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed the student. He ran away and was grabbed again and called the n-word, he stabbed that second student. Another student tripped him and tried to attack him, so he swung the knife at him. Three students were reported as injured. He was charged with 3 counts of malicious wounding. Elijah has no prior criminal record. His aunt told us, “He’s someone’s father, son, grandson, brother, nephew. Never been in trouble. He was a star basketball player at William Fleming High School. Also an honor student!” The judge handed down a 45-year sentence.

  • Vogue Brazil’s fashion director has resigned following an outcry over photos she shared from her 50th birthday party that many felt evoked slavery from Brazil’s colonial era. Donata Meirelles posted photos on her Instagram account showing her sitting on an ornate chair smiling while being flanked by two black women wearing white dresses. Many Brazilians pointed out that the black women’s clothes were similar to those worn by slaves, and the chair resembled a type of chair slave masters used in those times. Meirelles apologized in a statement that was then deleted on Instagram and then followed it up with a resignation announcement in a separate post. Vogue also issued an apology, saying that it “regrets profoundly what happened and hopes the debate generated serves as a source of learning.” (📸: Donata Meirelles)

  • The answer to this is because a big percentage of illegal aliens vote Democrat. This is also a reason the Dems don’t want the wall. They vote that way because of the systems the Democrats provide for these illegal aliens. Basically giving them everything for free. These people live perfectly fine off of the government assistance which is why always vote Democrat.

  • Loll and Empire took out his role for the reminder of the season. He is facing up to 3 years in prison for faking a hate crime all because he was upset with his salary. Now he has NO salary and ruined his life with this. Serves him right.

  • It happens very often that I get confronted with the prejudices and stereotypes that are stuck in people’s mind.
•
A few weeks ago I told my colleagues that I might go to Jordan later this year. “How do you travel to that sandbox?”, asked one of them. “By camel?” And last week another colleague stated that there is no atheism in the Middle East. “I have been there several times”, she said, “and I have not come across any atheist.” I looked at her with questioning eyes, and then she repeated it once more: “Really, it just doesn’t exist there.”
•
I find it fascinating that people who know that I studied Middle Eastern Studies tell such nonsense to me. Do they really not understand that — after years of study and having a fascination since childhood — I also have some knowledge of that turbulent region? Or do they above all find themselves genius?
•
Anyhow, the constant confrontation results in two things. First, it confirms that I must continue studying, it confirms that I must continue to develop myself in this scientific field. Secondly, it confirms that I still find it difficult to deal with people, no matter how hard I try to improve this complicated part of me.
•
Is there a world in which I feel at home? I doubt it.
•
Although it is in fact a sad situation, I am happy to say that I will work less after next week. From 4 days per week back to 2 days per week. In this way there’ll be room for rest and relaxation, room for reflection, room for a different kind of development. There will be room to read more, to do research, and to start writing again.
•
In the end there’ll be a little bit more room for self-love.

  • If you ever wanted to know what a racist Mexican looks like, here is a prime example. This asshat and all of his dinner companions, @sergio_goyri and #LupitaArreola #IsauraEspinoza, #RaúlReinoso #GilbertoDeAnda #VeronicadeAnda and #OmarGoyri , spent their rich white-Mexican night out, disparaging a fellow Mexican because she is indigenous. “Pinche India” they called her. They were all so indignant that an Indian playing the role of a servant should be nominated for an Oscar. Racism is rampant in all of our communities people! There is bias and hate everywhere and the only way to combat it is with continuing to push for diversity and representation in all facets of media. People don’t like what they don’t understand and media has the distinct capability to expose the world to people and cultures they may have never known. •

I have a lot of mixed feelings about this movie. About a Rich White Mexican making a movie about the indigenous house keeper from his childhood. If this was an American film, I wonder how we would all feel about it. But I will say this about the film. It felt real to me. I recognized those characters and I recognized the classism. For any level of actor, trained or not, she did extremely well. Also, she is not the first person of color to be nominated for the role of a servant. When people say it “didn’t require much acting” because she was playing herself, I can only hope that is true. Because her warmth and genuine emotion were the only thing that kept me from turning off the screener they sent me. #RepresentationMatters #DiversityMatters #Colorism is REAL!
I want to see more PINCHE GRINGOS like this pissed off in the future because then that means we are continuing the conversation and still marching in the right direction. He can take his “sorry I got caught” apology video and make some bitter flavored tacos for he and his privileged friends to swallow. •

  • #honestbookreview: if I'm being honest, this is a tough book to review. Racism, white privilege, classism that goes along with it, are all topics that I think about A LOT and quite frankly am not willing to get into with anyone on Instagram. The book is good though. It's an easy, quick read and it really hits hard topics. The book is real, though provoking (hopefully) and important. This is how people are living. Maybe not in your neighborhood, but that doesn't make the problem go away.
I remember when my husband told me about "the talk". I was in denial and in shock that this was a real, and important thing that black parents had to discuss with their 12 year old children. Really, I just wanted so bad for it not to be true or necessary, but sadly, it still is.
If you're reading this, and think this isn't a thing where you live. This doesn't happen here. Google Dafonte Miller and read about an off duty police officer who beat a black teen right here where we live.
Anyways, just read the book. Learn something. Take something away. And stop turning a blind eye.
