Truly amazing what photographer @sebastiaosalgadoofficial and his wife achieved. When he returned to Brazil from a traumatic photography assignment, this turned out to be a pivotal moment in his life. “The land was as sick as I was – everything was destroyed,” said Salgado. “Only about 0.5% of the land was covered in trees. Then my wife had a fabulous idea to replant this forest. And when we began to do that, then all the insects and birds and fish returned and, thanks to this increase of the trees I, too, was reborn – this was the most important moment.” Confronting environmental devastation in and around a former cattle ranch bought from Sebastião Salgado’s family near the town of Aimorés, in Brazil’s state of Minas Gerais, they decided to return the property to its natural state of subtropical rainforest. They recruited partners, raised funds and, in April 1998, they founded the Instituto Terra, an environmental organization dedicated to the sustainable development of the Valley of the River Doce.

I have chosen to post this shot in celebration of #natgeo100contest as I feel I fully encapsulates all that is @natgeo The shot captures the morning's glow off of a perfectly crafted spiders web deep in the heart rain forests on Vancouver Island. The web is representative of architecture, life cycles, the food chain, and the amazing abilities of even the smallest of creatures. The sun brings forth energy and the lush forest is a symbol of growth and conservation. Cngratulations National Geographic on the 100 million subs and more importantly, thank you for sharing the beauty and hidden gems this world has to offer us all.

forward or onward movement towards a destination. "the wet season did not stop progress"
don’t you just love it, how one can look more rested after a week of #jungle , than after a few hours dealing with people? I think it’s due to all the lying and superficiality 😏 makes me wanna live womewhere remote.

Up on the Nature’s Premiere channel ( link in description of this page ☝️), I talk about my journey that led me to start @naturespremiere.podcast and @naturespremiere.ds and how being a longtime vegan has impacted me. I really hope to add some positivity to our movement. 🌎❤️✨
