  • So I’m at the bar last night, waiting for my drink to arrive, when the man beside me orders a “Clint.”
“A Clint?” says the bartender.
The man reaches into his pocket and offers the bartender a business card. The bartender examines the card and nods his head.
“One Clint, coming up!”
I turn to the man beside me, who appears to be the same age as my father. “It’s none of my business,” I say, “but what the hell is a Clint?”
The man smiles and hands me his card. “Keep it,” he says. “Might come in handy sometime.”
On the business card, are the ingredients for a very specific drink. I am intrigued, not only by the drink, but by the man who carries a card with instructions for bartenders to properly mix the cocktail he desires.
“Campari?” I say. “Interesting.”
“Don’t knock it till you try it.”
“May I assume you’re the Clint for which the drink is named?” I ask.
“You may,” says Clint.
“And may I further assume you’re a man who has grown weary of describing a drink no one has ever heard of?"
“You may,” says Clint.
We shake hands, and I make no further assumptions about the man with a taste for pink cocktails. We chat some more though, and I soon learn that Clint has spent his life in law enforcement. Specifically, I learn that he worked with the secret service.
“Interesting,” I said. “Did you know John Barletta?” John is the only secret service guy I’d ever met. He guarded Reagan for years. I met him at the ranch once.
“Sure,” said Clint. I knew John very well. Good man. Died not too long ago.”
“Yeah,” I said. "I heard that. Did you read his book, Riding with Reagan?"
“Sure did,” said Clint. “He was devoted to the Reagan's. Absolutely devoted.” Clint raised his pink drink to John Barletta, and we drank to his memory.
“Were you involved with Reagan?” I asked.
“No, I was done by then. My last guy was Ford.”
“Your last guy?” I asked.
“Yeah, I guarded Nixon before that.”
“Really?”
“And Johnson before that.”
“Yeah?”
“And Kennedy before that.”
“You’re kidding,” I said.
“No. I actually started with Eisenhower.”
“Wow,” I said. “Five Presidents? You must have some stories.”

  • ❤Werbung❤ Findet ihr euch schön?😊💓 Was bedeutet Schönheit für euch?🤓
.
.

  • “I did it to myself. It wasn't society, it wasn't a pusher, it wasn't being blind or being black or being poor. It was all my doing” one of things I often think about whenever I stop to listen to Ray Charles is that we’re often quick to become a victim of circumstance but a pause to realize we are more of ourselves than ourselves allows the room for a possibility to grow

  • Today was simply magical... ➸
➸
Jordan and I got into Orlando late last night, and we headed straight to Disney World first thing this morning. We spent most of the day at Magic Kingdom, which was so fun. I especially loved the PeopleMover, Splash Mountain, the Country Bear Jamboree, and the Haunted Mansion. ➸
➸
My favorite, though, has to be the new Avatar Flight of Passage ride at Animal Kingdom. It is so cool! It takes a fairly tried and true ride type and adds a bunch of unique, high tech elements that make the ride incredible. It was definitely worth the 90 minute wait (which was short... it was up to four hours when we got off the ride!), and Jordan and I are already plotting how to ride it again. ➸
➸
Tomorrow we’ll be exploring Epcot, and I can’t wait! I love all these new Disney experiences I’m having. ➸

  • Thank you @berkleypub for sharing this one with me! The Care and Feeding of Ravenously Hungry Girls by Anissa Gray tells the story of three sisters—Althea, Viola, and Lillian—as their lives are completely upended once Althea, the eldest, is arrested, leaving behind two teenage daughters, now under the care of their aunts (who have their own share of problems to deal with). ✨
.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It’s told through the alternating perspectives of the three sisters, and I found each POV to be equally compelling — I think being able to see into the minds of each of the sisters definitely made the story more well-rounded and interesting. I find that I’m usually a fan of narratives about complicated family dynamics, and this one has quickly become a favorite of mine. Definitely one of the best releases for 2019 ☺️.

  • years have went by since we last spoke,
but i remember how you held the coffee in your left hand even when you did other things with the right,
colour of your eyes in shadow and Sun,
your hands felt wet in warm days but there was a serene coldness to it,
there's a gap between your teeth where your tongue rests most of the time,
your voice shutters when you're nervous,
and you hate saying "I love yous".
you hated kissing me in red lipstick,
said you choke on particles of Make-up,
i remember sitting and weeping as you went on and on,
telling me how beauty is construct,
this and that,
i once looked at you with hope and you thought I'm too far gone wanting your sympathy.
I don't say you were a bad guy,
no one's actually bad,
but we're all bad in someone's story,
point being, you're not the villain of mine.
a friend told me how you blame yourself for the years of pain I've been through,
regretting things you couldn't do and to love someone the way you loved me meant so much more than what happened, you feel you gave up and i wanna tell you how it's all a lie.
i slipped the word and the friend will tell your friend.
you knew about my insecurities but not how they're connected to remarks made by my father, I didn't tell you because I was scared of someone thinking so little of man who gave birth to me,
i felt troubled because of the things my mother wanted for me and i failed to want for myself.
i was ruined because of many things but none of them were you.
years have went by and you're sitting next to a pretty girl, i change my table away from your sight, almost ready to go, i look at you and you're laughing in way I've never seen before, she holds your hand and there's not a hint of sympathy in your eyes, if i could fathom strength to talk to you, I'd tell you how what happened to me was not your fault, boy you didn't ruin me, if you did anything it was you made me want to fix myself, then "for you" and today "for myself".

  • Read and focus please
Once you’ve made the leap, you’ll have a thirst for knowledge, wisdom and understanding. You become both student and teacher.

You will become a sponge, soaking up everything you can, creating loads of neural connections and schematic networks. You’ll learn the left-brained logic and rules so your right brain can have limitless freedom to break the rules and create.

With enhanced consciousness, time will slow down for you. You’ll see things in several more frames than others. While they’re trying to react to the situation, you’ll be able to manipulate and tweak the situation to your liking.

You’ll make connections others don’t see. As a result, you will cement your knowledge by generously sharing it with others.

The teacher is always the one who learns the most.

So you will teach and share abundantly. You will experience far more joy seeing others benefiting from your teaching than by experiencing success yourself.
